Editorial Reviews

Review

"Deborah Lipp has managed to distill thousands of years of occult history and practice down into one easy, readable book. The Beginner's Guide to the Occult is both informative and accessible, providing the perfect introduction to a world of magic." —Jack Chanek, author of Qabalah for Wiccans

"In
The Beginner's Guide to the Occult, Deborah Lipp has accomplished a feat I thought impossible: she's written a genuinely reader-friendly introduction to Western magical practice for absolutely everyone. With approachable prose that neither talks down to the reader nor go over their heads, Lipp guides the reader through a delightfully accessible crash course in how real-life magic is practiced by real-life witches, magicians, and other occultists the world over. If you're curious about modern occultism but don't know an athame from an aspergillum, this book is an exemplary place to begin your exploration of magic and mysticism." —Misha Magdalene, author of Outside the Charmed Circle

Deborah Lipp does an amazing job of introducing a wide range of information on the foundations of the occult, without getting sucked down into getting too wordy, or bogging the text down in too many details. The balance is just right, and she provides further reading and her references so that those wishing to learn more know where to go next. This book is exactly what I wanted it to be.

If you are new to the paranormal this book is for you. It touches on pretty much everything from basics to the obscure. It gives detail enough to introduce you to a subject and answers basic questions in its text but if you want anything in-depth, find it elsewhere. Having said that, it does give you more info per subject than most books like this.

Beginner or not, this guide is amazing at helping tie up all those loose little strings that you've always wondered about.... just how do they connect?! She gives just enough information to cover each topic without being too wordy or confusing, and has plenty of references for further research. The set up of this guide is spot on and I have absolutely nothing negative to include. If you're curious.....BUY IT!

There was nothing at all I disliked in this book. It was simple but to the point. It was easy for me to follow and understand. Some of the stuff I had read I was actually doing even before I read the book. Thumbs WAY UP!!!
