The writer quickly shows you what you will be looking at and explains some of the basic elements of written chant . I used it as a primer for myself and found it helpful and a good initial study. It is a good first book for a newbe to chant and a elementary musician.
This book is exactly as described: "A simple and friendly guide to reading chant notation, the easiest guide in print to make it possible to sight read Gregorian Chant in a very short period of time." It is to the point and uses a conversational tone as if a teacher is working with a student personally. It is literally 'A Beginner's Guide.' It's available in many places around the web for price comparisons, but I see I purchased it here in 2009. If you're looking for something very down to earth and simple to absorb, this is it.
At first glance, this book appears to be "See Spot run" simple. In reality, it is nearly useless for anyone with no previous knowledge of chant notation or solfeggio. Unless you already understand chant notation and just want a cute book, don't waste your money.
