Beginning Biblical Hebrew 1st Edition
Purchase options and add-ons
Achieving the right balance of amount of information, style of presentation, and depth of instruction in first-year grammars is no easy task. But Mark Futato has produced a grammar that, after years of testing in a number of institutions, will please many, with its concise, clear, and well-thought-out presentation of Biblical Hebrew. Because the teaching of biblical languages is in decline in many seminaries and universities, Futato takes pains to measure the amount of information presented in each chapter in a way that makes the quantity digestible, without sacrificing information that is important to retain. The book includes exercises that are drawn largely from the Hebrew Bible itself.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2018Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis is a great book. It is clear and takes one from zero knowledge to reading the Bible straight from the Hebrew. Bought it to go with Daily Dose Of Hebrew videos. It's the textbook these videos follow. Now I'm just following the book. I'm on chapter 20. Easy enough to learn if you do the homework in the book. Has totally changed my understanding of the Old Testament. Amazing and fun.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2013Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI had Dr. Futato in school and I couldn't wait to get this book.
It assumes no knowledge and starts with the Hebrew alphabet.
It's not a light read but neither is the Old Testament.
Be prepared to study but it is worth it!
Dr Futato makes it as easy as possible..
Highly Recommended!

catspooReviewed in the United Kingdom on March 25, 20225.0 out of 5 stars Very good introduction
Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI liked this book as it was clear and uncluttered. Nice big font throughout and the blue helps keep it all clear. The exercises are good and unlike many other grammars this one actually has the answers in the back so you you don't have to pay again to find out if you've done it correctly.
It uses Roman numerals for root position instead of פעל position. Maybe not quite as in depth or nitpicky as some other grammars but that can be a good thing.
I like this, I am planning to use this to revise.
It's rocketed up to 78 pounds I bought it when it was 26. Haha get it up ye
Interested IndividualReviewed in the United Kingdom on July 10, 20144.0 out of 5 stars A good introductory hebrew book with strengths and weaknesses
Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseA good introductory hebrew book with strengths and weaknesses. The exercises are helpful and the explanation is mostly clear but the coverage of binyan is very poor imho. It is really just for beginning and you need to study other books too.
I have gone on to further Hebrew studies and never really looked back at this book but I guess it worked for me because my hebrew is good...
