Susan JP Owens has a gift for causing chills. Her descriptions of the murderer’s doings are spot on, and her way with words is brilliant. You can almost sense how thoughtful she was with selecting each and every word.
I enjoyed the mystery in this story, the back story between Peyton and Cole, and the darkness.
Note: Halfway through it does get pretty erotic. I mention this for readers who enjoy erotic romance, and for those who shy away from it.
I had tears in my eyes near the end. Susan JP Owens does an amazing job relaying her character’s fears so that it’s impossible not to share their fear.
If you like the paranormal, mystery and romance genres, this story has all three. I highly recommend it!
Peyton Adams, a successful movie script writer, has a terrifying problem: For the last three years she has been lapsing into increasingly deep and dark mental images where she sees a demented psycho murdering women. At first, she was merely a bystander, watching without being able to help. But now she actually experiences the victim’s pain. With each occurrence, Peyton feels more power exerted over her mind and body by a force she calls “Satan’s Spawn.” Each episode leaves her weaker than the last. She feels certain that at some point she, herself, will be killed before she can find the answers to her situation.
Over a holiday visit to a Montana estate belonging to her friend Jillian, Peyton is unexpectedly re-united with Jillian’s brother, Cole. Peyton and Cole had been engaged several years before, but Cole abruptly broke it off, leaving Peyton devastated. Though she still loves him, Peyton resists Cole’s overtures for another try at romance; she knows her debilitating condition would never be conducive to a lasting relationship with Cole, or anyone else, for that matter.
When Peyton discovers that Cole, a partner in a law firm, is defending a dangerous serial killer, the pieces begin to come together, but time is running out for Peyton.
Susan J.P. Owens’ engaging paranormal revs up more than the reader’s suspense with sizzling romance, an exotic setting, and intriguing characters. The beginning may come quietly, but the rest of the story moves at clamorous warp speed. Highly entertaining!
