Just flipping through the pages of "Beginning Glassblowing" puts a smile on your face because you know you are in for a treat:
The beautiful typeface, and the hundreds of skillful, cartoon-like sketches by the author are very instructive in themselves, and the accompanying text is light-hearted and written in a way that really simplifies complicated processes in glassblowing.
A subject like glassblowing is difficult to teach in a book, and Mr. Schmid had done a great job of capturing the essence for the beginner.
After I read the book for the third time, I will be ready to take studio classes, something that I have been looking forward to for a long time.
I recently embarked on my glassblowing hobby, and I couldn't have found this book more helpful. I've read it four times already, and I think its a great way to keep your knowledge up between actual hot shop sessions. I recently oredered all the other books that Schmid has written/illustrated (see Advanced Glassworking Techniques: An Enlightened Manuscript and Glassworker's Bathroom Reader via [...]).
Actually, the prices for this item on AMZN seem to be too high as of this review writing. This book costs $25 if you get it from the source at [...], which is probably the greatest deal in the universe. I wish I had known this before paying like $45 for it.
