Concise, To the Point, Real World Examples

The only thing wrong with this book is some of the code is outdated and did not work with react-bootstrap. But there isn't much an author can do about that. And he does have you copy from the react bootstrap documentation, rather than simply write the code from the book, so you CAN get an updated version. I love the down to brass tacks approach of just building a project, then adding a little explaining why it was coded that way. This book does that well.

Recently I have had the need to delve into React for work and wanted to get up to speed quickly. From reviews, this book seemed like a good choice. Unfortunately for this book, given the direction React is going, it has quickly become rather dated and after initially flicking through it, I haven't felt the need to read any further. This isn't particularly unsurprising as technology changes very quickly especially in software. However, the book is too occupied with class-based components for its examples and this is a little problematic as recent focus for React has shifted to strongly favour function-based. This doesn't mean the example code is poor, but ultimately, you're better served with more recent online tutorials and documentation, especially if you're new to React.
