Beginnings Hardcover – 2009
"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? Cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, and instead, follow the data: In seventy-five jaw-dropping graphs, Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise. A tiny seed grows into a majestic tree. A small caterpillar flutters from the cocoon as a beautiful butterfly. A fragile egg cradles the new life of a baby robin. And a much-loved child is nurtured within a mother's womb. Beginnings is a fresh new way to teach children about the value of life at every stage. Gorgeous illustrations take little ones through all of the wonderous beginnings of God's creations - a seed becones a pine tree, a yellow blossom becomes a tomato, a spring becomes a river. Beginnings emphasizes the value of human life by reassuring children that God has loved them all along, from the very beginning.

Our youngest daughter, Sarah (almost 4 years old), wanted me to read this book over and over and over again. She marveled in wonder over each word and all of the beautiful, breathtaking images included. I think the book was especially meaningful to both of our daughters, because they are waiting "in joyful hope" for their baby brother or sister's arrival in about six months!
Beginnings teaches children about the wonder of God's creation, most especially how we, as humans, are made in God's image and begin in love in our mothers' wombs. I know you will cherish this book as much as we do in our family!

The book cover shows a collage of the different forms of creation, while a newborn peacefully dreams of Paradise. These images portrait the theme of the book.
Using her primary school teaching experience, Ms.Watson shares with the young readers the beginning of life using elements from the earth, the sky, the animals, and ending with the greatest of all creations; human beings. The vividly eye-catching pictures, in harmony with the story, will captivate the attention of any pre-schooler, primary school child, and even adults.
This is a simple and enchanting read-aloud children's book. Every page is an awe of beauty and invites the reader to become part of the story. Even if the child does not know how to read yet, the pictures provide the key elements for him or her to understand the story.
I highly recommend this book to parents and to those individuals involved in the early education of children. It is a great tool to teach them about how life starts from its ''Beginnings.''

The quality of the book is top notch (it would be a good gift for a new mother!) and the artwork is beautiful.
I HIGHLY recommend.
