When I read novellas I always worry that the shortness of the story might effect the quality of the characters or the depth that an author can reach but Mackenzie Lucas delivered a well thought out novella with charachters I adored. Namoi works at a bar in St. Augstine, FL when who arrives but her ex husband Jack. They have been divorced for 3 years and she had just started to think it was time to consider putting herself out there. It's becomes obvious that Jack is not over Naomi and vice versa.
I really recommend picking this novella up as well as Essence by the same author. You won't be disappointed!
Naomi & Jack are well developed characters, however I have some questions about why she would choose Jack in the first place, given her background. The secondary ones are good as well. I'm dying to know more about Naomi's co-bartender & Jack's partner (sorry I can't recall the names). I'm sure they have good stories on the way. I presume that there is at least one book following this one as there seemed, to me to be a cliff hanger. That said, It was a good quick read and I'm looking forward to reading more of Macknzie's books. Pick it up, pour a glass of wine and enjoy!
This is a very enjoyable easy read with enough mystery and suspense to keep the page turning. It is about a couple, Naomi Quinn, waitress at a bar in St. Augustine, FL and her ex-husband, Special Agent Jack Spaulding. The lies and secrets from Jack is what broke their marriage apart and sent them their separate ways. Years later with Naomi working in a bar in St. Augustine, Jack walks through the door listening to Naomi flirt with a group of Rangers while serving their drinks. Now Jack has to win her back.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I must say that this is the first novello that I have read before. I never thought a short story would be able to provide a detailed story with an interesting plot, or frankly be worth the money. This book has completely changed my mind! Great plot, amazing characters and extremely sexy scenes. Can't wait for more from this author! And next time I will be happy to pay for it!!
I loved this story! Naomi and Jack sizzled and there was just enough drama to keep things interesting and the reader hooked. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer. ;)
I received an an advance copy form the author for an honest review.
