32 year old Christoper is a cynic when it comes to women. The ultimate betrayal at the hands of his ex-wife Carol leaves Chris with a bad taste in his mouth when it comes to getting close to any woman, even though he is tempted to from time to time. But none has tested his resolve to stay away from the fairer sex as much as his new housemate Elizabeth, who from the very first encounter he desires with everything that is primal deep inside of him.
Though Chris is determined to ignore Elizabeth and the effect she has on his control and baser emotions, all his best laid plans somehow fly out the window when circumstances find both of them spending time with each other. Little by little Chris starts to see that Elizabeth is nothing like his ex-wife though his insecurities remain and Elizabeth starts to feel safe and secure in the fact that she is all woman and more than enough when it comes to Chris.
But somehow the fragile connection that is forged between these two is tested when someone starts threatening Elizabeth, somebody out to settle a score and out for Elizabeth's blood.Read more ›
Chris and Elizabeth held my interest from the very beginning. I wanted to learn more about them, and, while the story didn't just pour it all out there, it did reveal the details of the characters and their lives at a good speed to keep the story moving and your interest peaked. I did want to shake some sense into Chris a time or two but overall he was pretty good. The interactions between Chris and Elizabeth throughout the book was fun and sweet.
I was pleased to find that Ms Hayes didn't do a lot of sex scene skips. You know the ones... where he carries her off to the bedroom and then you skip to the afterglow. While not explicit, the scenes that were there were nicely steamy.
I will confess that I heavily suspected the "bad guy" before it was confirmed. There was still the possibility it was someone else, but I was pretty certain.
I definitely enjoyed this book, and while romantic suspense won't take up top position in my reading preferences anytime soon, I am definitely interested in reading the second book in this series. Sherri Hayes will definitely stay on my list to watch.
Chris Daniels didn't want another woman in his life, at least not now. But after getting a look at his new neighbor, Elizabeth Marshall, all he can seem to do is think of her and the things that he would like to do to her. Anytime that he tries to get close to her, a look in her eyes stop him cold, the unadulterated fear she has of him turns his blood to ice but makes him wonder even more about this mystery woman. Once Chris convinces Elizabeth to attempt friendship with him, someone from her past begins a deadly game of cat and mouse with her that could lead to her untimely demise. While Chris has feelings for her, will her baggage deter him from making that final step? And when things get serious, will Chris be there at her side or will he leave her just like she expects him to?
This was a great story, with amazing characters and a nice twist in the plot to keep a reader guessing until the very end the `who dunnit' and if Elizabeth and Chris can make their relationship work, despite the drama overload.Read more ›

I love when attraction is instant and resistance is a struggle. Add family, drama and troubled pasts and this story keeps your attention from to finish. Some love is meant to be.Published 4 months ago by LisaS
