I have gone into much more detail in my review of her second volume of Behind Dark Doors. Please take the time and read that for a more comprehensive discussion of her work and what makes her a special talent and such a bright spot for female authors of genre fiction.
What May has done in all three of her works is she introduces the basics of the story in a paragraph. Many authors do. What she does next is something I wish so many more writers would: after the story is finished she takes three, maybe four paragraphs to explain her inspiration, observations, life experiences that lead to the story. This always blows my mind. I love when an author takes the time to have this intimate discussion with their reader. It's like a conversation between just the writer and the reader.
I can't recommend all three volumes of BDD enough. I am looking forward to reading her novels and keep hoping she has plenty of short stories to share. I love being scared, surprised, thrilled. Don't you?
To Be or Not To Be
Things That Will Kill You in Australia
Again as with the previous sets of short stories Susan has written a brief lead into the story before each read and then followed with a brief note on how she came to write each piece. Most of her stories seem to just come from every day events we all go through but she somehow manages to come up with an entertaining horror twist to every day events.
I will be the first to admit I am I one of those Americans that Susan refers to in Things That Will Kill You in Australia, got a great chuckle out of that one when finished. Back Again is one that is an obvious nightmare to any parent out there and Gone also would be for anyone that has had someone not show up when they say they would and that bit of worry runs through the mind. Again, just everyday things that Susan twists into a horror tale that the next time these happen to you you'll find yourself thinking of these tales.
Overall, another nice collection of twisted tales for the horror fans.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Feeling of solitude so Deep...
Twist with Graham Bell story of inventing and patenting the telephone. An intriguing place to make a change in The story
TO BE OR NOT TO BE
Sometimes every choice is bad and you still have to choose. Karis is a well-written mother figure.
THINGS THAT WILL KILL YOU IN AUSTRALIA
Preparations for The trip can be huge. But to Australia is it enough to read some blog posts?
This story is a cyberpunk one. Children are getting modified and it's making a disaster in everything That we know. There are Also haters. How will modifying children change The World?
This novelette base on Time traveling. Mother will see Her kid death for multiple Times (Like 100s). What are Her feelings? Is changing history even possible?
I loved these short stories in this book even the extra little ones she put in telling about her next books (even though I've read them..DEADLY MESSENGER was another great book I would recommend for everyone to read)
I hope that if you haven't read this book that you give it a chance along with the first two and all the rest of SUSAN MAY books...you'll be glad you did...
Thank you SUSAN for keeping me up again and putting life on hold while reading your wonderful and exciting books...XOXO
