I have just finished your book Behind the Smile. I liked it very much.
I have been three times in Pattaya and when I read your book I saw many things that I have experienced in this city.
When Craig is in Lek's village: I remember the first time we were in the family of my friend's wife, with all the members of the family in the house to see the farangs.
How they eat, how they live, your book is very realistic, we see the point of view of the farang and you imagine the point of view of the Thai lady (and in my opinion it seems also very realistic).
Will you write another book about Thailand?
I enjoyed the book. It was well written and interesting to learn how other people live. Especially the choices that some have to make in life. Makes one think how lucky one is.
I look forward to the next chapter in Lek's life.
ABNA Expert Reviewer What is the strongest aspect of this excerpt? The writer starts off with a strong first sentence and appears to know the fundamentals of the romance genre. He or she pays off the promise of the pitch in these first few pages.

From the Author
From the very first day that I arrived in Pattaya, my experiences provided information for the basis of this book. In fact, I began thinking of it as research, but it was the kind of research that any man would be happy doing.
I began collecting stories from the Pattaya bar girls: ones that my girlfriend translated for me and those that they told me themselves in English. These were not interviews as such, but I did take mental notes that were transferred to a notebook later - without any names, of course.

The stories in the book remind me of the many tales I would hear from my male counterparts in the CIA, who had almost all gone to Thailand to experience the “local talent”. In fact, at times it seemed like it was a prerequisite to success for the male officers to have experienced the sex industry in Thailand. And yes, my experience is recent, even with the threat of contracting HIV.
At times I wondered if Craig, Lek’s love interest, was actually Archie from my own book. The thought made me cringe and laugh at the same time.
Although there were points in this book where I felt like I needed to take a shower due to the descriptions of some of the sex acts, I found the story kept my attention and I rooted for Lek to realize her dream of marrying a foreigner and escaping the Pattaya bar scene.
As a reader it felt like I was part of the story.
I have recommended you to a mate and he is buying your book today.
Love to buy you a beer one day!
