I have used Rottenstone most of my life to get a smooth, diamond luster rubbing out my chosen projects which is usually using Urathanes and varnishes. I like Rottenstone over Jewelers rouge because it is , for me, just the right compound to achieve the results I like... I use it with a felt pad like a black board eraser and Paraffin oil as a carrier. Some folks use other types of oils but Paraffin oil stored on the felt doesn't decay, rot and doesn't dry out. It is as fresh as the day you started too use it.

I bought this for a mirror finish for a chess board I made. It is outstanding. I first brought it up to 1500 grit sandpaper, used 2F & 4F polishing powder, finished it off with the rottenstone and waxed it and it is by far the best finish I've 'finished'... I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a very high gloss finish.

Yes, the intelligent reviewer has pointed out the grades of Fine pumice. Here is where you go for fine polishing. after you have smoothed with pumice.

I do like flowing this wondrous dust with paraffin oil to make a slurry that will polish in the finest fashion.

Another nice thing about this approach is that you are not likely to do any harm from not doing it in the best way. Instead, you see progress, in parts, that drive you to do the rest, and all of the rest, quite perfectly, even as a beginner.

I purchased the Rottenstone to remove rubbing alcohol stains on a wood table. I created a paste with the Rottenstone and boiled linseed oil and hand rubbed the wood. It took a little time and elbow greese, but the white stains came out with no color change to the wood. It looked good as new with no other refinishing necessary. The same combination works great to rejuvenate and polish your furniture or hardwood. Really saved me a lot of grief.

Used this and was very much impressed...This container will last me a very long time and I am sure that I will find many uses for it! I first tried it on wood that I had refinished - it was very easy to use and it took off some of the gloss like I had hoped it would.

Bought this to rub out an oil based polyurethane finish. Used successive grits of sandpaper up to 2,000 then pumice 4F then Rottenstone. Never felt such a smooth finish. Waxed and buffed it looks and feels professional and, believe me, i'm not that good. Would have preferred a smaller size. I have enough to pass on to my grandchildren.

I used this to buff out some very fine scratches in a table. It worked and it left no little swirls or circles. Excellent service from the supplier.

Really a good rotten product. It is for a very fine polish not a cleaning product as some reviews have used it for. I use it to bring back the shine in my urathaned hardwood floors. A bit of messy work, but much better than refinishing them. For cleaning pots I suggest the chain mail scrubbers found elsewhere on Amazon.
