I enjoyed the book but it started out slow for me. I was thoroughly interested in the carry over plot to know how it was resolved; however, I think I would have liked it better had it resolved itself simultaneously with the main plot in book one or had a carry over with two additional main characters in book two.
Alongside the residents of Signal Bend, the Night Horde MC was in the middle of a dangerous war so from a plausible standpoint, there were some difficult parts to read since not everyone likable was going to come out in top. But it was suspenseful, intriguing and a realistic saga, so overall it was enjoyable.
At times though the story was confusing. Even when the main conflict was untangled, it took a while to get to the details of how things ended and who all was involved. There were parts that were detailed but there were also numerous loose ends on important pieces to the puzzle. However, by the end, most were revealed enough to follow along.
Lastly, there were a handful of editing errors, primarily missing words and incorrect tense, such as starting versus started.
All in all, it was great to read the conflict resolution and see the start of a fresh new beginning. True to form, Fanetti's supporting cast of characters was strong and she left us with the promise of hope in the next book for Show's story.
I loved that I got established a connection with the other club members. Especially Showdown and Badger. Behold The Stars was dark and gritty but it had to be cause it portrayed the biker life in its authenticity and honesty. This series and its characters have definitely captured me.
This book had a different feel compared to the Move the Sun (my review). It was much more violent and the focus was not only Lilli and Issac but other members of the MC and the fate of Signal Bend.
The writing still has the same solid, straightforward and raw beauty we saw in book 1. The journey of the main characters in their relationship was well down and convincing. Lilli appeared weaker than before but I think it's understandable since she was so out of her element - being an old lady, living with Issac, being pregnant and on top of it all being involved in some horrific act of violence both as a victim herself and as a witness.
The initial portion of the story was focused on Lilli and Isaac working things through in their relationship. There was depth to their characters and the journey they undergo to their happily ever after.
The middle section was non-stop violence and was overwhelming at times, especially Show's story and later Lilli's encounter with Ellis. I was quite taken aback by it and wish it was toned down a little.
My main issue is not with the violence itself - it can be expected when the Horde MC is involved in drug trafficking and other illegal activities. What bothered me was that the good guys were just as merciless and brutal in their retribution as the bad guys. I liked Issac and Show and Bart and most of the Horde brothers but still they resorted far too easily to physical violence and even torture to achieve their goals. I am not a big supporter of "The end justifies the means" philosophy.
Final quarter of the story took us back to the personal level of things and focused on Isaac and Lilli's relationship again. There was some painful moments and some heart-warming ones which left me with tears in my eyes. I liked that things worked out for everyone in the end but if felt too good to be true. It can't be that easy for former criminals and people who were forced to do or be involved in acts of cruelty and violence suddenly become upstanding citizens and just forget everything that happened before. It took away from the realistic nature of the rest of the story.
Note: The book contains extreme violence, animal cruelty, rape and torture.
Good MC books are so hard to find and this one, is phenomenal!
This story continues with Lilli and Isaac. They have their growing pains...Lilli is independent, used to taking care of herself. She doesn't feel she needs the protection that Isaac insist on her having.
Isaac is protective because he knows the MC is still danger due to Ellis, and the expansion. With the issues the MC is having Isaac is fighting to save them and keep Lillie safe.
This book has everything...action...drama...sadness...and of course hot sex.
This series is MC Gold and if you love MC books you should jump on this one.
