Cons: As with most mixers you can get a hum if the power isn't clean and isolated. This unit does not have a power switch on it, so if you want to turn it off you have to unplug it. I'm not sure what engineer thought that was a good idea. I bought an outlet switch for it.

None of the included manuals have the list of effects specified, nor does their website have a downloadable list. I had to contact tech support and they sent me a pdf. I've attached the list.

I ordered this to replace the Pyle PMXU63BT (which I returned due to its low quality and high noise). I am setting up a podcast and doing other recording using Audacity on a Linux laptop and needed to be able to bring audio into my recording from at least two mics as well as other sources. I initially ordered the Pyle mixer and was pleased with how well it made that task possible, but the end result of my recordings was unacceptable.
I returned it and ordered this in an effort to try again.
I unpacked the XENYX 1202FX, plugged it in, hooked it up to my mics and computer, and did a test recording. When I compared that recording to one I had just made with the Pyle, the difference was like night and day -- the noise was gone, the audio is richer and fuller, and the overall quality was much better. I am very pleased with this board.
Check out the pics and video featuring a recording made with this mixer, the Neewer NW-700 microphone, and Audacity on my Linux laptop.
Here is what I like about this mixer:
• The four XLR jacks are powered by Phantom Power
• Below each XLR jack is an unpowered Line In jack for instruments or mics that don’t require power
• Each of the XLR/Line In jacks has controls for GAIN, EQ, LOW CUT (to eliminate too much bass coming in), FX (more about FX later in this review), PAN (more about Pan later in this review), and LEVEL.
• All of the other jacks (5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12) can be used as stereo or mono and have controls for FX, BALANCE, LEVEL and Input Sensitivity.
• The RCA In and Out make it easy to connect peripherals such as a CD or Tape player/recorder. In my case, I used the RCA In to capture sound from my laptop so that I can listen to recordings in Audacity during my post-production editing.
• The build quality is better than I expected at this price. This board is really well-made and solid as a rock!
• The quality of the sound is superb. I have much less to do in post-production and the results are impressive.
Features I really like:
• PAN and BALANCE on all jacks:
◦ This is one feature that was missing from the Pyle mixer that I returned.
◦ This allows me to pan one XLR mic all the way to the right and another all the way to the left and then record in stereo on Audacity. After that, I can separate those tracks and edit each one independently. This way, I can have a guest on my podcast and do post-production editing of my voice without messing with his and vice versa.
◦ BALANCE control of jacks 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, and 11/12 allows them to be treated as true stereo in the recording. It is even possible to treat each one (for example 5/6) as individual jacks and use entirely different sources with each of them.
• The MAIN OUT jacks are true stereo:
◦ This means that whatever I pan or balance left or right is recorded that way.
◦ This is also true for the CONTROL ROOM OUT jacks.
◦ This is also true for the PHONES jack, meaning I can monitor what’s going on and adjust as needed.
• The EQ is excellent (though somewhat limited):
◦ It has the “British” style three-band (High, Mid, Low) EQ knobs for all four XLR/Line In jacks (1,2,3,4).
◦ The EQ is deep, wide, rich, and full – the adjustments are perfect for me.
• The FX are really good:
◦ There are 100 of them (numbered 0-99) and they are fully adjustable.
◦ Some people have complained that the manual does not include a list of these FX, and that is true. But a quick Internet search found a PDF of the list and it includes many FX that really make recordings sound more professional.
◦ If you prefer to use an external FX processor, there is an FX SEND jack for that. The FX send also allows a simple "mix minus" setup.
The biggest complaint I find in other reviews I read here is that the mixer does not have a power button. While it is true that this means either that you will need to plug into a power strip or unplug the unit to turn it off (and plug ot back in to turn it back on), I don’t really see that as a big deal at all. Instead of it taking me one second to turn it on before I start, it takes 5 seconds.
The bottom line is that I am more pleased with this mixer than I thought I would be at this price. My expectations were reasonably high, but this mixer is amazing. It has all of the features I knew I needed and some I didn’t realize I would need. It works perfectly and produces professional, quality sound. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a simple, basic mixer with a few extra features.

My biggest complaint is the power supply- though the head unit itself is light and compact, it uses an external supply that's pretty bulky, about 3x3", probably weighs as much as the head unit, it is heavy enough to pull it off a table if you leave the transformer dangling, and/or can pull the plug out of the back. Also this is a proprietary plug, so you can't use another type adapter . And the cords are long and tangle easily.
For a stationary application this is not a problem, but as portable unit for gigging it's a lot of hassle, I wish it had a built in power supply.
At the time I purchased this, I was using a Zoom H4N ro record the VO for a weekly project. The zoom did its job well but I needed more inputs and the post production time was too much.
I was so excited to get this item and started using it right away. Right off the bat, I noticed it gets warm fast. At first I thought it was because I was using 2 inputs plus 2 Mics.
I started using a laptop base with a fan under the mixer and, for the most part, the fan keeps the mixer from overheating. I use a usb power bank to power the fan in the laptop base so if the power bank isn't charged, the mixer will be overheat.
Lastly, during longer recordings, and at random times, the mixer will produce a lot of static I can't hear during recording, it shows up when I listen back to it. It's not the cables as I have used various XLR cables. When that happens, I have to unplug the mixer (as it has no on/off button) and let it cool down and/or have to jump from channel to channel until I find one that works for the time being.
I use it often and I'm happy with the recordings, most of the times. There have been times where no amount of post was able to save the recording.
May be my unit is defective, who knows?
Based on my personal experience, this mixer is a gamble. It can be that sweet mixer at an affordable price and, if you choose to look at the positive side of it, it will force you to step up your audio post production game...glass half full right? 😄🤙🏾

But at least nothing else i've bought recently has made me worry for my safety.
.
I have bought and owned a fair few budget mixers over the years. I currently own another five apart from this, including another of the same make as this (which i totally love). And i think that in a live situation i've known maybe one mixer to get a little warm, once. But within five minutes of plugging this in at home both the mixer and the power brick were almost to hot to touch. There is an air vent, but in a classic piece of design, the vent is on the underside where little to no air can get in and out (but a spilt drink easily could).
.
But the problems started before that. Just trying to plug this in was a small struggle. In the end i realised that you really have to force the plug into the mixer in a way that would damage anything else, otherwise the plug just keeps falling out. Either way, this was not an encouraging start. One of my other mixers is a virtually identical design to this, including an identical looking power input. And i have never had this problem with that one.
.
The first thing i played through this was my Volca Beats. Now i know that this is unfair as the Volca Beats is rubbish, but stay with me on this. I had to turn everything, including the gain, up to full to even hear anything at all. But when i did, the bass was utterly outstanding. Almost better than anything else i own. Truly magnificent. Unfortunately there was no treble at all, and hardly any mid at all. But like i say, this is an unfair test.
.
So next i tried a keyboard through it, AND i chose a better set of headphones! Again, this was still a bit of an unfair test as it was a cheap childs keyboard. BUT, with the mixers effects on it actually sounded quite full and almost professional in some ways. And now i DIDN'T have to turn everything up to full to hear anything anymore! So i was very impressed at first. Even the hiss had gone (which was probably the Volca or the rubbish headphones if i'm fair).
.
But while the effects are fun for a minute, they soon lose any charm when you realise that you cant control anything about them. All that you can do is pick which pre-set to use, and how much of that pre-set to use on each channel. Yes, there are 100 to choose from, all in a mixer that costs very little. We should perhaps look at even having these at all as some kind of plus. But when you can not just fine tune the timing or feedback of a delay, or the size of a reverb, then it quickly becomes frustrating. A little thing like that might add another dial and £10-ish to the cost (i'm just guessing here), but i think that it would make this thing so much more usable. IF it wasn't about to burst into flames at any moment that is!
.
And that's really all there is to it, isn't it? It really doesn't matter what this sounds like, or if it could be good value at all, if you are actually in serious danger of burning your house, studio, or rehearsal space down.
.
I'm sure now there are those people who would like to point out something like propping this up to let air cool it properly, or only ever using it on a perfectly flat surface. But i would argue that should not even be a thought that you have to have. This is not a hotplate or a kettle or a toaster. If this was in any studio setting and you were expected to keep checking how hot is was getting then it would be the only piece of modern equipment like that.
.
Yes, i have old equipment that i have to keep an eye on how warm it is getting. But that comes with using 40 year old samplers all day. And they don't get hot like this mixer did in just five minutes.
.
This kind of issue has no place in any modern studio settings. Certainly not in a professional setting. Nor, i would argue, even in an amateur one. As amateurs (including youngsters somewhere i guess) might not think to check how hot some equipment is getting. Nor should they be expected to.
.
Going through other reviews now, while some people seem to be perfectly happy with this mixer, there are a few other people that mention issues with the power supply (and trouble getting replacements, refunds, or in fact ANY communication with the maker or Amazon).
.
I can only speak from my own experience. If other people love this mixer and theirs don't get hot enough to fry eggs on, then good for them.
.
But in my opinion, this product is potentially dangerous, and i can't believe it's actually being sold.

Quite small/compact, very light. Straightforward to use - I got the option with fx which seems a no brainer since the prices for with and without were fairly similar. The fx gave a bit of additional substance to the otherwise ropey vox. There was also a handy input to play a laptop through the pa during the well earned interval. Since using it for live performance, it is now also used for home playing/recording/mixing etc - the small size means you can feasibly have this on a desk alongside your pc keyboard/laptop without much worry - it's not much bigger than an A4 box file.
Perfectly reasonable for the price. Smaller and lighter than I expected, but that is actually a positive attribute all things considered.
Basic ambience effects good enough for small performances, you wouldn't try and run a group through this mixer, but if you wanted just to amp up the vocals and keyboard against guitar drum and bass back line this would do fine.
No significant noise or artifacts introduced, great for a home studio, and has worked well as a front end to an audio feed via a Behringer audio converter into Cubase.
