Top Customer Reviews
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE READING THIS TO FIGURE OUT EXACTLY WHAT IT IS: This mixer is, at its basics, a very simple piece of tech that you use as a place to plug all of your equipment into for having it all easily accesible and having it all essentially be plugged into either a recording means or playback means. The mixer has built in pre-amp functionalities which, preamps mainly exist to get rid of that hiss you hear from ANY microphone. This specific mixer comes with about 6 different sound effect varieties that you can layer onto your individual pieces of equipment. This comes in use when you're looking for a sound on a piano that you might find through the pitch shifting effects or when you want to make yourself sound like your in a cave without having to BE in one. There is also a set place for plugging in RCA cables meaning if you wish to sample from CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, vinyls, cassettes, or even old school video games then you can with ease.
I will note that If you're trying to use this with anything like a 3-way wireless microphone kit it WILL NOT get rid of the hiss. I had a kind of old wireless kit that I really wanted to use to capture a specific sound and/or my drum kit but the hiss was too obnoxious to even allow me to work around. Not really a problem with this though, mostly a problem with outdated means of transferring sound without the use of wires.
Cons: As with most mixers you can get a hum if the power isn't clean and isolated. This unit does not have a power switch on it, so if you want to turn it off you have to unplug it. I'm not sure what engineer thought that was a good idea. I bought an outlet switch for it.
None of the included manuals have the list of effects specified, nor does their website have a downloadable list. I had to contact tech support and they sent me a pdf. I've attached the list.
- The Behringer is much smaller in every dimension than the Mackie.
- They controls are compressed and the less frequently used ones are completely missing. They focused on what I need.
- This unit is absolutely silent. All I hear is my keyboards.
- The annoying blue power LED people have been complaining about has been replaced by a more subtle amber one.
- I miss my XLR main outs and my mute buttons.
- No power switch. This thing runs very hot. What's it doing to produce all that heat!? Another reviewer mentioned that his started smoking the first day out of the box, so I'm a little leery of leaving this thing on. With the complaints of the power cord coming out, I'll have to buy a power strip now.
Four stars for the missing power switch and heat issue. If it ran cooler or had a power switch, it would be an easy five star unit at this point.
