Just got the Behringer Xenyx X1204USB mixer and I really was impressed. The knobs, faders, and switches all felt solid (compressor pots feel flimsy though), but there is one button that now sticks in the engaged position which is on channel 7/8. It's the Pre fader button, and that shocked me since every other one is flawless (knock on wood), and even the first time I tested the one that is now bad worked like a charm. I didn't even press that hard (these are like ball point pen buttons in which they latch when pressed down) on it before it would not disengage.
For $200 I do expect a product that doesn't break after a simple test (engage/disengage). Is it worth returning for a new one? To be honest I am debating this, but here's the issue. If could get a replacement that is worse and half of the buttons could stick in the engaged position, or perhaps I could end up with other issues such as bad faders, POTS or whatever. One switch isn't the end of the world, but it does stink.
One thing to note before buying the X1204USB (or any in the Xenyx family) is that while this is USB, it WILL NOT (repeat) WILL NOT multi track record for you. Unlike a Studio Live mixer from Presonus which can muti track record into the DAW, all you can do in a XENYX is record in 2 track stereo into your DAW. Definitely not what you'd want in your home studio. Even podcasting you have to send it all to 2 tracks (even with 4 mic outs and instrument (line in). Makes it tough to isolate the audio for a good mix down.
Over all this is a decent entry level mixer, but don't expect everything under the sun. Even with what this has, it is still very basic. I've been recording for years, and have been a musician for many years, my experience say this is okay, but there are better mixers out there if you spend a bit more.
