We ordered a package of these for a large podcast we are preparing with more guests than we usually support. We currently use Shure SM-58 mics, but I didn't want to spend that much on additional mics that I'm not sure will see regular use, so I figured I'd try these out.

From an Audio perspective, they're plenty hot. Hotter than the Shure mics, for sure, so you will need to dial them back just a touch to equalize. They also have relatively good sound for the price as well. The mids are a little scooped, but they have good highs and lots of bass. All in all, they're a very nice value purchase.

JUST WOW! SUPERIOR SOUND QUALITY

I had to write a quite review for these. I am a semi-pro musician, which means I get paid to play but I don't make my whole living making music alone. I bought these because I am doing a gig that needed mics with on/off switches on them and the Shure SM58s we were using didn't have them. While Shure does make a version of the 58 with an on/off switch, it would be quite pricy for me to invest in three of them. I did a little research and wanted something that came in a case with three vocal mics with on/off switches on them. Several companies had packages that came close, but it was this Behringer package that ticked all the boxes. It also happened to be the most affordable. I assumed the mics would be okay given the low low price of the package, but much to my surprise these sounded better than the 58s! I wasn't the only one who thought so; my other vocalist said the mic was clearer than the 58 was and that she didn't have to sing as loud to be heard. So there you have it. If you need three mics with on/off switches that come in a nice case then do not hesitate to get this. Dare I say if you want to step up from an SM58 sound wise get these as well.

The only thing I can't comment on is durability and reliability. The thing about SM58s is they last forever. The one I am comparing this mic to has been with me since the 80s. Will these still be working in 20 or 30 years? Will these withstand abuse on the road? I honestly can't say, but I would not be surprised if they did. I also would not be surprised if they did not and died after some time or a good drop. However, for this price, I am okay with that. If they last a few years and then die, I may buy another set or see what else is available at the time. All I can say is this is a very convenient package for someone trying to outfit a band with several vocalists who is on a budget.

To sum up, reliability is anybody's guess, but the sound quality is not an issue with this package.

I have been an audio engineer for 10 years. I am intimately familiar with the sound characteristics and applications of the Neuman 87Ui, Shure SM57 & SM 58, and AKG Blue Line microphones. I bought this 3-pack 4 years ago and I was shocked to discover how well they perform as... DRUM MICS!!! At home, I don't have the luxury of using the most expensive gear on my kit, but the Ultravoice mics sound clear, full and detailed! I put two in octabons, and one on a huge 18" floor tom. I say - without bias - that these sound BETTER than every Sure mic I own!

Absolutely amazing mics i have put these through the mill . I have used them for years at concerts for vocals and instruments. No problems and they sound amazing for the price compare to shure sm48 or sm58 . I have smashed them on floor on stages banged them around . They feel heavy duty metal conetruction . Highly reccomend.

Great mics for the price

I am surprised at how good these mics are, for the money. I am a worship leader in a six person band, and these mics are excellent for backup vocals, and they aren't bad at all for lead vocals. Most people can't hear any difference between this mic and a Shure SM58 when I sing lead or talk. I can hear a difference, but it isn't a huge one. Honestly , I think I prefer the sound of this Behringer XM1800s over the Shure SM58 that I have been using. The SM58 seems to have a duller, thinner and more muted sound than this mic. The XM1800 is a lot hotter. I don't have to basically touch the mic with my lips the way I do with the Shure mic. It picks my voice up well when I hold the mic six or so inches from my mouth. So, I think it would be a lot better than the SM58 if you need to mic an an acoustic guitar or when mounted on a boom. The mid-tones are good on this mic, especially the low mid-tones. I think I detect a slight distortion at the high end of my vocal range, but it's still better than the SM58 because at least I don't have to strain to sing loud enough like I do with the SM58. My philosophy for singing is, use good breath support, but let the mic do its work for volume instead of straining on the high notes. Again, I'm not a professional -- just a volunteer worship leader. For my needs, these mics are great for the money.

These mics are such a deal. They sound great and come through a little hotter than my old-school Shure.
The only problem I see is the on-off switch is not the best. They feel like they could break if subjected to rough handling, so leave these on the stand. Don't knock them around and don't swing them around by the cable. If used with care they should be fine for any groups with a low budget.
The clips appeared to be too small but I found they are a perfect fit if you use a little persuasion. This could be a reflection on my arm strength though. I AM an old fart after all.

Beware - new version (2019) is not as as good as the original

I bought a set of the original version of these back in 2009 and they are fab. Good at any price and amazing at this price. Rugged, look smart, and sound great - not a flat frequency response, but the sort of sound that is great for clear close-miked vocals. Super tight polar pattern too, for good gain before feedback. Not far off the performance of the Shure SM58 (yes, that good), although with a bit more handling noise.

So in November 2019 when I needed some more mics for another project, I bought another set of three. Big mistake. The 2019 version is not as good the original version that is the subject of most of these reviews. The overall sound of the later version is nowhere near good as that of the original - much less clear and not nearly so nice. And the handling noise is much, much worse - don't even think about using it hand-held, and even on a mic stand you are pushing your luck, especially if anyone touches it to sing or speak into it.

I'm usually a big fan of Behringer stuff, but they took their eye of the ball on this one. Maybe they just couldn't keep putting out mics that good at that price. Fair enough, but given that the new version is so different to the original, they should have given it a different model number to show that it is something very different to the original XM1800S that we know and love (call it a XM1800T or something?).

Having spent 5 minutes listening to them, side by side with the originals, I returned the new ones. Credit to Amazon - they took them back without a fuss.

So, here's how you tell them apart:

In the original, the handle of the case is moulded into the case; in the inferior later version the handle of the case is a hinged thing attached to the outside of the case.

In the original, the mics are laid out in a fan formation within the case; in the later inferior version the mics are laid parallel to each other within the case.

On the original, the 'BEHRINGER' name on the band around the base of the windshield is in block capitals (all upper case); on the inferior later version, the 'behringer' name on the the band around the base of the windshield is all lower case.

And if you compare the old and the new side-by-side in an A-B sound comparison test, you'll hear that the sound and handling noise of the later version is very much inferior to the original version. Also if you put them side by side, the newer version is physically about 10% smaller than the original (the originals are a bit bigger than a SM58, the later version is pretty much the same size as a SM58).

If you can still find the original ones anywhere, buy as many as you can while you can - they are a great mic. With the original XM1800S you hear them and think, "Wow, how can they do it at the price?" But with the later ones you think, "Yeah, sounds like a ten quid mic."

Si bien, no son los mejores que vas a encontrar en el mercado, cumplen su función para cosas básicas. Yo compré este pack para utilizarlo en el coro de una iglesia (como vocal, no ambiental, ojo). No le pide nada a micrófonos de gama más alta para cantar en vivo, pero si quieres algo para estudio sí te recomiendo buscar una gama superior (tipo shure o senheisser). Me parece una gran oportunidad para hacerte de equipo musical a buen precio. Recomendable.

Los compre junto con cables xlr de amazon basics para conectarlos a una interfaz behringer 404hd. Los usamos para un podcast y funcionan perfectamente, solo compramos unos filtros pop de esponja en steren y hemos hecho ya varios episodios, aun asi dudo que sobreviban una caida a pesar de que e son de metal. La caja en la que vienen esta perfecta para transportarlos pero los clips que venian no les quedaron, por suerte las bases de neewer ya vienen con uno incluido pero cabia mencionar ese detalle. En fin muy buenos microfonos para alguien empezando un podcast con varias personas.
