She received her Bachelor's Degree in English from Southern Oregon University and her Masters in English from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her thesis was titled: "'I am on the Coloured Side': The Roles of the White Suitor and the Black Mother in the Tragic Mulatta Narrative."
