Authors Emily Thompson and Kathleen Shannon set the tone right from the beginning in sharing their own different routes to entrepreneurship, what "Being Boss" means to them, and providing exercises at the beginning of the book to help you clarify what it means to you.
This book is beautifully designed, full of exercises and case studies from other entrepreneurs, and doesn't shy away from some of the tougher realities of running your own business. My absolute favorite part of the book "The Scientific Method for Creatives" takes the sting away from one of the harsher realities -- you will be rejected! -- and turns it into a process of experimentation you can learn from.
I can't recommend Being Boss enough for creative entrepreneurs starting out on the path, or for anyone looking for a reset and a refresher.
Emily and Kathleen share from the heart. They are authentic, transparent and truly want other bosses to succeed. You can feel this in the pages of the book. They do not hold back.
When you show up and do the work you can live life on your own terms making work and life mesh together.
Seriously what are you waiting for? Get this book to kick your business into gear!
When I started my business in 2015 I felt lost and unsure of what it really meant to be a BOSS. I discovered the Being Boss Podcast and I cannot express just how much their words of wisdom kept me motivated and inspired to keep building my business and push through the hard times. Now I have a profitable business, a team of 4 amazing women, have crafted my Ideal Day (thanks to their amazing worksheet!), and understand that in order to be a boss, you have to be willing to do the work.
This book is a must-read for any creative entrepreneur looking to solidify their understanding of the current world of entrepreneurship and how to incorporate their personal brand, and unique style, into the work that they do. I can't wait to see what Kathleen and Emily create next!
Written by two relatable, badass women with years of experience doing the work, this book has helped me face my fears so that I can channel my inner entrepreneur, get clear on my goals and visions in a way that *feels right* to me, and has equipped me with the practical tools, tips, and advice to make all the things actually happen in my work and my life. I keep coming back to this book for the wisdom and incredibly helpful exercises, and I'm SO grateful to the authors - Emily and Kathleen - for creating this amazing resource.
P.S. It's definitely worth it to buy the hard copy. The book design is GORGEOUS!
Until now. This book is everything that I wanted and more. It takes a holistic approach to having a boss experience in life and business. They include tools and techniques, mindset tricks, they are as clear about what you should NOT do as well as what really works.Their approach to every aspect of being an entrepreneur is inspiring and useful.
I have bought this book for my own business besties, and I highly recommend it to my own clients.
