Editorial Reviews

2012 album from the Christian rockers. Kutless has continued to make massive impacts in the last several years being awarded RIAA Gold Certification for their worship-based album Strong Tower, in addition to Gold Certification for long-form video Live From Portland. This album was produced by Dave Lubben (producer of It Is Well) and Christopher Stevens/ David Garcia (Mandisa, Sanctus Real, TobyMac). The first single 'Carry Me To The Cross' is a worshipful cry and reminder about God's never-ending faithfulness and grace.

Just like that, Kutless has transformed from that new rock band from Oregon to the one new bands look up to, the band whose music is all over the radio in multiple formats, the band that's sold millions of records. Ten years after their debut self-titled album, Kutless is returning with their newest album Believer. I remember the first time I heard their debut hit single "Run" in 2002. I was a new believer and the band won me over with the emotional and prayerful lyrics from God's perspective: "Why do you run, why do you hide, oh don't you know I just, want to be with you, why do you run, why do you hide, oh don't you know I just, just want to be with you. Be with you." I can't listen to the last stanza without getting emotional: "Find a place of solitude, and I'll speak to you, As you pray to Me, Don't you know I'm waiting here, waiting for you to read and hear My Words, I'm waiting here missing the time the times we shared, well, please come to Me." From that point until now, I've been a major fan of the band. According to lead singer Jon Micah Sumrall: "We wanted our name to represent the impact of what Christ did for us on the cross. Christ took our beating and paid the wages of our sin (Romans 6:23). He took our cuts for us, leaving us "Kutless." Amen. That sentiment has been displayed in each of the band's solid albums.

The rockers on Believer are opening track "If It Ends Today," "All Yours," "Need" and "Gravity." Since guitarist Nick DePartee joined the band they have really found their niche musically and lyrically and seven of these new tracks and all four rockers were co-written by Nick. He also co-wrote their previous hit songs "Amazed," "You Save Me" and "Remember Me" from It Is Well. They are all instantly engaging and hook-filled songs that are filled with biblical Truth.

I'm giving this CD 4 stars because of the great lyrics. Unlike most Christian artists today, Kutless rarely writes two or three lines and repeats them ad nauseum.

Some fans are frustrated that this once hard rocking band has given way to the modern praise and worship phase that has taken over Christian music. I personally loved both Strong Tower and It Is Well because it was a nice change of pace for the group and they did it so well both times.

But it's when they branch out of the praise and worship style that the band now seems to have lost their identity. Maybe it's the production, maybe it's a desire to not alienate their new praise & worship fans, or perhaps these guys are just getting older and softer.

One thing that has been consistent with Kutless is that there is no doubt their message is to lift up God and lead others to Christ. While I miss the rocking days of Kutless, Sea of Faces, and Hearts of the Innocent, I'm glad this group is still around and spreading their message of God's love.

Believer is crazy awesome! Poignant lyrics, perfectly mixed rock and worship, and amazing voices create one of if not THE best Kutless album so far!
A powerful band being used by an even more powerful and loving God.
Drummer Jeff Gilbert's favorite song is the song he wrote called "I'm With You" while his wife was pregnant with their first child. Originally written for his son, Jeff realized how God's love comes from a father's heart.
Kutless will be going on a new tour at the end of February until May called the Life Is Loud tour. Any Kutless fan MUST see this tour it will NOT fail to Rock and Worship better than ever!

My third album was Believer by Kutless. It is a little harder rock than previous ones like It's well and Tower. Faster pace. At first I didn't really like a few songs. Now I am liking them better than any other. Even if, the 4th title is the best for me. Hero is also very good. If Kutless were secular, they would be a top 100 band easily. Just as good as anything on the radio if not better. If you like Christian rock and want something a little harder, check out 1000 foot Krutch. They are real good and different. I am old time christian rocker and I love Kutless.

I love this album. OUr favorite song is "even if". It is a new way to look at unanswered prayers. I purchased this just for this song because I have a friend that is dying and this song spoke to my heart. Very uplifting and encouraging messages throughout. Keep up the work of the Lord!!!

I throughly enjoy this CD. I really like Kutless anyway because they do everything from rock all the way to praise and worship type songs. This CD is really good for a family because it has some rock songs for the kids and also has some more worship type songs for the parents. But I like all of them.

THis album to me is OK. I like Kutless and everything but it's just too bad that Kutless doesn't rock like I like Christian rock. It's good though, nice faith music and righteous lyrics, very good songs. Mighty nice.

The very name of the group, 'Kutless' is apparently based on Romans 6:23, "the wages of sin is death". The Lord took our cuts for us, leaving us "Kutless' - which is a testimony in itself. And the band's music lives up to its billing. It begins with "If It Ends Today"; and ends with "Carry Me To The Cross". Well done, I highly recommend.
