Product Description
This 4320-Joule surge protector features 12 surge protected outlets to provide powerful protection for your workstations, printers, broadband modems, home theater systems and everyday household electronics. 8 of these outlets rotate, providing extra room for large AC adapters and charger bricks. An efficient cord-management system helps keep all your cables organized, all while sporting an 8 foot long heavy duty extension cord for a secure and durable wall connection.
FULL SPECS: 6,000 volts maximum spike voltage, 15A AC (4 stationary outlets, and 8 rotating outlets), 125V, 1875W, and 150K Hz - 100M Hz EMI/RFI Noise Filter.
SURGE PROTECTION SAFETY: If a surge protector ever becomes hot to the touch, shut off the unit immediately. Never daisy-chain power strips to other power strips or extension cords, nor allow a power strip to be exposed to a moist environment. Avoid running too many high-energy consuming appliances through a single surge protector at once. Only one power strip should be plugged into a single two-outlet electrical socket. Never cover a surge protector with carpet, furniture, or anything that would limit or prevent air circulation.

Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a quality surge protector with versatility outlets for any entertainment setup. I currently have mine set up in my living room and have a good amount of machines running which are my Desktop, PS4, PS5, occasionally the Nintendo Switch and of course my 4K Samsung tv. I came from a battery backup surge protector which are significantly more pricey, and heavy. Although that is more practical, i never found the urge to want more from this surge protector by Belkin. If you consider this product, i'm sure you would love this one and wouldn't be hesitant to get a second one for an additional setup. 5/5
The most important standardized metric for protection of electronic equipment is the clamping voltage. Peak let-through voltage is very important and related, but I have not found a standard by UL or IEEE for that metric.
The clamping voltage of this item is 400 Volts. Ideally, you would like to have a surge suppressor with a clamping voltage of 330 Volts; but after looking pretty exhaustively for several months, I have been unable to find ANY surge suppressor for consumers rated for 330 Volts. I mean ANY...!!!!
You will look at the package and say, "Where is the clamping voltage SHOWN?" Well, it AIN'T shown anywhere on the package or the Amazon listing! I could not find ANY manufacturer that listed the clamping voltage on its packaging or advertisements.
"Why is that," you say. Well, there is some type of collusion within and by the manufacturers to not let you know what the clamping voltage is. Why? I'm not sure. Certainly, 998 people out of 1,000 don't know what it is, and wouldn't care if they DID know. People (and yes, I'm included) are just generally not very bright.
You can probably find surge suppressors rated with a 330 Volt clamping voltage once you start getting into the hundreds of dollars for a surge suppressor, but how many of us can afford that? Especially because, if you buy a voltage suppressor that actually works, you will have to buy a new one every two or three years, because the little voltage spikes you get due to relatively normal power outages and lightning events cumulatively degrade the protection you get from a suppressor. And if you have a suppressor that actually PROTECTS your equipment, once it reaches the total capacity of the suppressor to protect, it opens the electrical circuit so that your equipment won't be damaged by a strike/spike. I.e., your equipment won't have power until you replace a real suppressor.
If you have a "suppressor" connected and working for more than four years, I promise you it is not actually protecting your equipment. It is allowing the current/voltage through to your device with NO SURGE PROTECTION AT ALL. Yes, it's pretty well planned to hoodwink 99.9% or so of the population. If you know an electrical/electronics engineer, ask 'em.
Again, you have no real alternative. There use to be a Rosewill surge protector listed on Amazon that is virtually identical to the Belkin, but I see now there is a message saying "We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."
If anyone does find a surge suppressor with a clamping voltage of 330 volts, I hope you will leave a note replying to this review, if you can. I won't check it often, but I probably will the next time my surge protector dies from the cumulative spikes I described above.
Another reason I only gave this product four stars has to do with the rotating receptacles. I find that the spacing is too narrow to allow me to actually plug a hard drive adapter into adjacent receptacles. The adapter/plug is too wide. So I can only plug in a maximum of six devices that have the adapters (which are larger than standard plugs). As a matter of fact, I can't even plug in another STANDARD plug adjacent to an adapter, because the adapter body actually is so wide that it won't allow most standard plugs to fit next to it. Belkin needs to put another 1/4 inch or so between the rotating receptacles to make all of the receptacles usable. I just shake my head that some manufacturer can't make at least THIS feature usable. You would think a competitor would take the opportunity to make a buck by manufacturing one that actually does what this product is advertised to do.
It was dirty and dusty on top and on the sides, even of the outlets. It had 2 tie cables, one around the whole cord, as usual-like the new one- and one around one third of the cable, as if previously tied off, and the cable was dusty. the packaging was all mangled as well, part of which might have been because Amazon shipped it in a plastic bag instead of a box -- which they should not do for electronic components.

Belkin 12-Outlet Pivot-Plug Power Strip Surge Protector with 8-Foot Power Cord, 4320 Joules (BP112230-08)
The short version:
There are three total lights on this unit. The power button (orange, largest) and two smaller 'indicator' lights – one green (PROTECTED), the other red (GROUNDED). This review exclusively concerns the red light.
Promotional materials from Belkin clearly state that when the red light is ON, this indicates an ungrounded outlet (faulty wiring) and surge protection is not working. However, their warranty sheet clearly states that when the red light is ON, this indicates a correctly grounded outlet and surge protection is WORKING.
The promotional materials are wrong, the warranty is correct. Read on for the long version...
The long version:
In order for a surge protector to function properly (i.e. protect your equipment), the wall outlet into which it's being plugged needs to be grounded - if you don't know what this means, google it.
As of February 12th 2017, word for word, the red indicator light description on the official Belkin U.S. site, Amazon U.S. and Amazon Canada sites (see image 1):
"... the 'Not-Grounded' indicator light turns red to warn you when your outlet is not properly grounded."
... and the description in the common questions section of the official Belkin U.S. site for this product (see image 2):
"Red: The outlet is not properly grounded."
So according to two of Belkin's most visible online product descriptions, if the red light is ON, it indicates faulty wiring and therefore surge protection is not working.
However, in the warranty sheet that comes with the surge protector (P36504-B, see image 3), the description of the red light is suddenly inverted:
"The “grounded” light should be on when the power switch is turned on. If this light does not come on when you plug in your Belkin Surge Protector, you have a ground-wiring problem and you should contact an electrician to properly ground the outlet. Connecting a Belkin Surge Protector to an improperly grounded outlet will void all Belkin warranties."
So which is right? Here's the definitive answer...
I have two outlets that are properly grounded. I know this because I had a certified electrician ground them, watched him do the work and test everything (I'm not going to go into the technical details of all this). I also have other outlets that are not properly grounded. When I plug this unit into both properly grounded outlets, the red light is ON. When I plug it into any outlet that is not grounded, the light is OFF.
What's more, Belkin sometimes refers to the red as the 'Not-Grounded' indicator light (see image 4). The actual product clearly has GROUNDED printed beneath the light.
So the bottom line is that if the red light is ON, that means your outlet is GROUNDED, surge protection is WORKING, and your warranty is in effect. If the red light is off, your equipment has NO surge protection. And to be clear, if surge protection is not working, the unit will still continue to allow current to flow to your equipment, but is essentially just an extension cord with twelve outlets. All of your equipment is just as vulnerable as if you had no unit at all.
Needless to say, Belkin should correct and standardize their descriptions. Even though I like this product, I'm docking two stars because of the issues above that Belkin should address for their customers.

Once my impressively brave wife and I put the fire out ourselves, our TV, DVD player, Blu-Ray player, Yamaha receiver and Streaming box all survived.
My Belkin Surge-Protector was fried, but it died saving everything down-line.
I pray this Belkin never has to do the same thing.
