The Easy Transfer Cable was officially designed for the Microsoft Windows Easy Transfer utility, which is featured in Windows 7. All you need to do is connect the cable to USB ports on your old Windows XP or Vista computer to your new Windows 7 machine, and run the utility.

Easily Transfer User Accounts, PC Settings, Files, and More
Your user accounts, Windows settings, files and folders, pictures and photos, MP3s and other music, videos, program settings and program data, and e-mail messages, settings, and contacts will all be transferred over to your new computer without a fuss. Thanks to the "Map User Accounts" feature, the destination PC is not required to have matching User Accounts. Gone are the days of losing important email messages or having to reset all your user settings!

Once the transfer done, a post migration report is generated, which gives you a comprehensive view of everything that was transferred. Because of possible incompatibility issues, programs and applications are not transferred to the new computer. Instead, the utility provides a list of all the programs and applications that were installed on the old PC along with links to the latest versions of the programs if they are provided by the software developer.

Works Great - W7 to W7

At first, I wasn't sure if this cable would work for me because I had read somewhere that it only worked for Windows 7 32-bits to Windows 7 32-bits. I recently purchased a new laptop that comes with Windows 7 64-bits and I needed to transfer my files from my previous Windows 7 32-bits laptop. Anyway, I found this cable here on Amazon and the description stated that it was compatible for the transfer I needed. I figure, if it doesn't work I'll just return it.

I ordered it with the Local Express Delivery and received my cable with perfect timing. This cable is extremely easy to use with "Windows Easy Transfer". If you have Windows 7 you won't need to install the software. If you have XP or Vista, you can simply pop in the CD that comes with the cable and follow the instructions. I started Windows Easy Transfer on both computers and selected the option of "Use Easy Transfer Cable". You may use DVDs/CDs too, but that would have taken me tons of discs I would've thrown away afterwards. I plugged in the cable, waited a few seconds for my two laptops to recognize the device then proceeded with the transfer.

The process took a while (maybe about an hour) since I had a considerable amount of files. I transfers everything such as your Documents, Music, Videos, Pictures and basic User Account information. Any programs you have you will have to re-install.

This cable works great and I'm extremely happy that I bought it. I'm in my new laptop and it's a relief that every time I look for a file, I have right here with me!

Belkin Easy Transfer Cable - Fast & Easy

I knew it was time to migrate to a new computer but I was not sure of the best way to move the contents of my old computer. After looking into a variety of options, I decided to try the easy transfer cable. To be honest, I did not think it would work. But it did work and I was able to do it myself simply and easily. Though I own a number of websites, I consider myself technically challenged but this was truly a breeze.

My kudos have to start with the quick start guide. Unlike many instruction sheets that consist of illustrations with confusing arrows and hard to figure out directions, the Belkin manual is simple and easy to follow. Step by step pics and directions walk you through the process.

At the start of the process it will let you know if your computer is capable. You may need to download a service pack. Running Windows XP, my computer was ready to go. I installed the CD on the old computer, followed the directions, connected them via the USB ports and had a cool drink while the cable did all the work -easy breezy.

The Belkin Easy Transfer Cable transferred all the data to my new computer. I had already deleted many files I did not want and during the process waa able to select general items I wanted to transfer including photos and documents.

It worked! Within a half an hour the contents was transferred from my old machine to the new one. Due to copyright issues, certain types of programs and applications can not be transferred.

Very impressive and highly recommended.

Easy - an almost perfect transfer

I previously used a Belkin Easy Transfer Cable to transfer data from Windows XP to Windows Vista so I was disappointed to find out from Belkin that I had to purchase this cable to do the transfer from Vista to Windows 7.

Most of my data migrations to a new computer have involved manually transferring data via a cable or external hard drive. However I always missed files and sometimes had a hard time locating the correct place to go to find certain files. Because my last transfer to Vista was so simple with the other Belkin cable, I had no hesitation in purchasing this one when I got a new laptop. The simplicity of the process made it worth the money, especially since I know I will use it again when I upgrade my desktop.

I simply followed the instructions provided and my data transferred over successfully (documents, pictures, videos, Windows Favorites, email - inbox, drafts, sent). I didn't even have to set up my POP3 email again. The settings and my preferences came right over. As you progress through the setup screens, you can review the files that have automatically been selected for transfer and select other files you want included. I ended up checking some extra files for Photoshop and Lightroom but otherwise, I made no changes.

After the transfer, I realized that my Firefox browser Bookmarks didn't get moved, so that was the one hiccup I had. This issue was easily resolved by finding out what files I needed (via Google search), then transferring them over via my network.

You do have to reinstall all of your programs, so have the disks or download files ready, as well as your product keys.

Whatever you do, don't buy this

It doesn't work. The fault may be with Windows Easy Transfer software, a copy of which came with the cable, but the cable doesn't work with some of the systems it's advertised to handle. It may not work with any of them, for all I know. When you call Belkin tech support you get somebody with a thick accent who can't understand what you're saying and apparently has no technical expertise. Without finding out what failure mode I had experienced, she directed me to their website to download a driver that does not exist. I'm returning this thing and buying a different brand.
