I would love to leave a better review for this item, but it simply doesn't work reliably for some of my most basic devices. About 8 months ago I built a custom desk and installed three of these hubs. Over time, I would have strange problems where the USB would just stop working. For example, when the AC kicks on in my house, it does something to make the power trip in these hubs and then all of my devices have to be recognized by Windows again. Often, my mouse won't be recognized after this happens and I have to reboot windows once or twice. Imagine having to do this several times throughout your workday!

You may be thinking--"this sounds like an electrical problem in your house--not a problem with the hub". Well, you may be right, but what I know for sure is that if I use a $7 Amazon usb hub instead of this one, it works 100% of the time with no issue.

I am no electrical engineer, but it seems to me like Belkin needs to add some sort of power conditioning to this device. Then it would be worth 5 stars.

It is a powered USB hub so there is no problem charging/using several devices at the same time (phone, MP3 player, camera, flash drives, etc.) Rather than drilling through my desktop, I mounted the product in the wall and ran all wires to another hole and grommet beneath the desktop level. I like keeping my desktop clutter free so I built small shelves to hold the items while they are being charged/accessed. It works great for me. I have mounted two of these for both myself and my wife. This gives us 8 powered USB ports each that are easy to reach and we only use 2 of the USB ports on our PCs. My PC now has USB 3.0, so I am looking forward to Belkin refreshing this product with the new capabilities, but I hope they retain the form factor/mounting grommet so I can just run the new cables, snap in the new ports and I am all set. I have been using these for about 2 months now and have had no problems at all.

Very nice powered USB 2.0 hub

This is very nice powered hub that fits nicely into a 3 inch opening in a desktop. It's especially handy that you can route other cables through the openings on either side of the USB sockets. My only caution is that the power supply doesn't seem to stand up well to being called upon to deliver power all the time-even for relatively small items such as a Bluetooth repeater. To their great credit, Belkin stood behind their product 100%-no questions asked. I simply emailed support, explained the problem and they quickly responded by asking if I wanted them to send a replacement immediately or return mine first. Support like this makes it a pleasure to do business with Belkin. It certainly ensures that I'll give their products "first look" when I want something in their field. Well done.

Solved my problem.

I had a gaping hole in my desk from a monitor arm that I retired, and I needed something to fill it. I also had a USB hub sitting there that kept getting dragged off the desk due to the weight of the cables. So I got this item to solve both problems. I chose it over the competition because it was a powered hub which was important for my application (charging items while my computer is off.)

The only issue I had was enlarging the hole to the size of the hub. That was solved by using a hole saw. But with no place to put the center drill bit of the hole saw, I resorted to an old trick I learned from a woodworking magazine: I first drilled a piece of plywood with the same size hole (3") and clamped that to the top of my desk, and then used the plywood template to guide the hole saw over my smaller (2") existing hole. Without the template, the saw would have wandered all over the desk.

I have about a 5 month old Ikea Computer Desk. my Computer is suspended under it in the corner. It's kind of a hassle to look under and plug something into one of the 2 front USB ports so I got this. I drilled a Hole in my Desk, Popped this into place. Plugged the USB Cable into the back of my PC and the power plug in to make it a powered USB hub, and it works great with all my USB devices!!! One I keep my Mini Wireless Mouse Dongles plugged in and that leave me 3 ports for whatever else I need. Plug in my iphone, or Kindle to charge up or connect to my PC. There's also slots on the side to run a few cables down if you like. You can twist a bit and lift up and easily remove it enough to fit a power cable down into the hole if you need to. My light is RED on Green like in the picture.
