Make Your iPhone Feel Like a Digital Camera
Experience a better way to capture photos and video on your iPhone 4 or iPod touch with the LiveAction Camera Grip. With a contoured, soft-touch design and external shutter button, it makes your iPhone or iPod touch feel more like a digital camera. The integrated tripod mount allows you to attach your device to any standard tripod for more stabilized control. Separate buttons for photo and video let you easily switch from taking stills to recording live action. Simply attach it to the charge connector on your iPhone 4 or iPod touch and snap away.
Capture the Moment
Whether it's a spontaneous group shot or an impromptu speech, the LiveAction Camera Grip helps you to capture each moment as it happens. The contoured, soft-touch design and fast-fire shutter button makes it easier to take pictures, and allows you to toggle between the photo and video buttons to instantly go from still to live shooting. The LiveAction Camera Grip is case-compatible, so you don't need to lose any time taking your iPhone 4 or iPod touch in and out of the case.
Works with the LiveAction App
It's easy to capture and share your media with the LiveAction App, free in the App Store. With Belkin LiveAction, you can instantly record and share all of your media. Capture high-quality snapshots and home movies, then send the results to your social network without skipping a beat.
LiveAction's intuitive interface features separate on-screen photo and video buttons so you always know whether you're shooting stills or video--and it's easy to switch modes. When you have a pic or clip you want your friends to see, the app lets you link directly to your email or Facebook.
LiveAction can be used alone as your iPhone's primary camera app. Or, use it to support the LiveAction Camera Grip, LiveAction Camera Remote, and LiveAction Mic.

The only functionality missing is zoom. Perhaps Belkin could add a little zoom lever to a future update similar to the one on my little Sony Cybershot camera.
I also own the Phocus camera case for my iPhone and I really really wish they had built in functionality like this Belkin device. The Phocus case is too thick to allow the use of both the case and this Belkin camera grip. I find myself using the Belkin Camera Grip far more than the Phocus camera case. In fact, I leave the Belkin Camera Grip on my iphone at all times...it makes for a handy way to hold the iphone and it doesn't add much bulk to the phone so it still fits in my pocket just fine. (The same can't be said for the Phocus camera case.)
The only problem I've had with this device is I have to sometimes unplug and plug it in again in order to get it to work after the phone goes into sleep mode.
I bought this device for $10 and at this price it is worth having. I certainly would not have paid the original price of $50.
If you can get it for $10, you get:
- a sturdy tripod mount,
- a nice grip that makes one hand shooting very doable (without using the grip's button) using whatever camera app you want,
- a Belkin camera app that isn't terrible, and has the benefit of being able to trigger the shutter with a button on the grip.
I'll probably rarely/never use the Belkin app, but I'm happy with my purchase just for the tripod mount and the one-handed grip shooting (using my favorite cam apps) capability for $10. Plus it works fine while my iPhone is in its case.
As for not being able to use the grip's button in other camera apps, my guess is that this is an Apple limitation rather than a 'fail' by Belkin. Some camera apps have been pulled from the Apple app store for implementing a 'volume-up-trigger' (Camera+ is an example), so I'm not gonna be upset with Belkin about this.
- Great grip
- Lessens risk of dropping iPhone while taking pics
- Easier to take multiple pics quickly
-NEED TO UPDATE APP SO THAT WE CAN TRANSFER ALL PICS TO CAMERA ROLL. Right now, it only allows you to transfer 5 pics at a time. I suspect this was limited by the function to put the pics on social media sites. But Belkin didn't take into account those of us that just want to move all the pics to camera roll so then we can move to our computer. This is a MAJOR flaw.
- About 20% of the time, the app does not recognize that the grip is plugged in. I've tried various ways. Keeping it plugged in, taking it off while the grip is plugged in, never taking the grip off, etc. Either way, I've concluded that about a fifth of the time you just need to unplug and plug again. Sort of defeats the purpose of creating a point and shoot function for iPhone.
Overall a good grip, but it needs some major revamps on the app for this product to be truly worthwhile.
The problem is the software. For some reason it doesn't save shots in full 8mb resolution. Additionally, you can't use the HDR mode with their camera app either. Also, when the app starts up, it seems to assume you are taking a video rather than still shots, so there is a significant delay in shooting.
The shutter button doesn't work with other camera apps (which would have been a great feature), but it still does give you a more stable way of holding the phone while taking pictures (which is a nice in and of itself).
Maybe Belkin will upgrade the app. Unfortunately, I don't think there have been an updates since December, 2011. That's not a good sign.
I wish they had made it function similar to the volume key so that you could use native/app store camera apps with it, but this is not the case.
