Most newer gadgets come with a Micro-B port - Amazon's Kindles are such examples - but some of the older ones, such as the PS3 controllers, even some older or off-brand tablets still need a Mini-B connector and not all come with their own cable. Or you may feel that you need an extra wire, just in case. And this is where Micra's cables come in. These used to be the 'standard' USB cables a few years ago but you should make sure that this is what you really need because most gadgets have a smaller 'micro' (not mini) USB port these days.

Be aware that this cables will not work with any current Kindle or most tablets or phones.

Almost everything about Micra's product is right, including the price except maybe for the wire being a little thin but that doesn't matter much. It is USB 2.0 certified, therefore supporting transfer rates of up to 480Mbps and, if your device needs a Mini-B plug, this is the cable to get. Just pick the proper length: 3 ft for charging or data transfers off a laptop, 6 ft if you need to plug it on the back of a less portable device.

This being a commodity item, I am awarding it 5 stars mostly for 'price' and the convenience of it being available through Amazon's super-savers (free shipping) and it being delivered in a 'frustration-free' box.

Notes:

Anyone in the market for a USB cable should be very careful because there are at least 6 kinds of USB connectors. If you are buying a cable that connects 'something' to your computer or laptop, the computer end of the cable will always be a USB-A or 'Type A' connector. At the other end, you may have a USB-B/Type B - a nearly square shaped connector used mostly to deliver power to a device but this is rare.

Most newer "mobile devices" that people think as mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc) don't take this cable. They take the smaller "micro" cable. With that said, some stuff still uses this larger cable. For one, the Philips GoGear Raga MP3 Player does. And this cable works to charge it and transfer data to and from it.

So, if this is the cheapest USB A to USB Mini cable you can find, get it! It doesn't feel like the most insulated cable in the world, but it works...recommended above all others - until another decent but cheaper cable comes along, that is.

USB A to Mini-B cables have been with us for over ten years now, but they can often be mistaken with the newer USB cables with Micro-B plug in the small end. That's what recently happened to me when I mistakenly tried to plug a newer cable into an older device, and found that it was the wrong plug. It happens.

The Belkin Micra Digital USB A to USB Mini-5pin Cable is a good one at a reasonable price, and for my use, this 3-foot cable came in handy while trying to pull data from my old, backup BlackBerry Curve 8330 prior to permanent retirement. That done, it ended up replacing the original cable for an aging Toshiba 500 GB USB portable hard drive during a major system reconfiguration.

This 3-foot cable is perfect for older devices, but should not be confused with the newer devices with a with the smaller, flatter Micro-B end, such as the Micra Digital USB A to USB Micro-B Cable. If you have a newer smartphone, such as the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android phone, the BlackBerry Curve 9330 or any Kindle device, this is the type of cable you'll need. The Amazon Kindle Fire 5ft Micro USB Cable, Black (Works with all Kindle devices) is another good alternative.

But for older devices, this Belkin Micra Digital USB A to USB Mini-5pin Cable is an excellent choice. It's cost-effective, flexible yet sturdy, and the smaller end has a "B" marking so that it won't get confused with the newer cables.

I got this cable as a backup to charge my Playstation 3 controllers. I'm constantly amazed at how easy these cables are to lose. It turns out that this cable is so good that it will replace my regular PS3 charger.

The USB mini end is what really sealed the deal. While I was expecting the cable to be just another cable, it actually fits the controller better than the one that came with the system. It seems much easier to remove that the other and even looks like it fits better.

These cables are not expensive and are of very high quality. I recommend them for anyone looking for backup cords or even replacement ones. This cord feels much more natural than any other I've used for my charging needs.

I got this cable because I accidentally threw away a cable for one of my kid's Christmas present (an MP3 player) and was using a cable for an external hard drive. The good news is that this works perfectly! It's a little long for something like an MP3 player where you need maybe a foot, if that, but the extra length was handy when I picked it up off the desk to look at it while it was still plugged in.

Three feet long, works fine on my cell phone for charging. I've never had any problems with any Belkin cable EVER, and this one is no exception. If you need a longer cable, get a longer cable. This is perfect for my needs and fits several of my plug-in USB wall warts. No complaints and it gets 5 stars for being and doing exactly what it says.
