But BEWARE of sellers selling non-Belkin cables on Amazon.

This cable listed on Amazon is the Belkin F8V204-06-M 6-foot stereo extension cable with 3.5mm plug and jack. Belkin cables are generally high quality, have a warranty, and come in a Belkin blister pack with a label and UPC code. Many lower-quality audio cables have cheap conductor wires and weak wire connections at the terminals. This reduces the audio quality. And if you handle a cheap cable a lot, as when using it with a portable device, one or both channels will start cutting out after a while.

However, the Amazon Marketplace merchant who was selling this cable for the lowest price as of February 2011 was NOT shipping the listed Belkin cable. (This obviously may change if this seller drops the listing page.) This seller shipped me a lower-quality cable, without any packaging, which has no warranty. I have notified Amazon of this practice.

Anyone can now buy huge quantities of very inexpensive, but poor-quality electronic cables of all types from various Asian wholesalers. They come unpackaged in big cardboard boxes. So if an Amazon Marketplace seller is listing a much lower total price (including shipping) than Amazon for a brand-name product, beware that it may not be brand-name overstock on sale, but rather a lower-quality, different-brand product or even a no-name generic product. I have found this to be true multiple times and reported it to Amazon.

Apologies for beating a dead horse on this one, but this product is falsely advertised as a Belkin product. This is a cheap, mass-produced cable with mid-low quality products. The current picture that is advertised is misleading, mainly because the bottom photograph shows a heavily shielded and robust connector for the male and female ports. However, THIS IS NOT THE CABLE YOU WILL RECEIVE. The cable that I received was the cable in the top portion of the photograph: a generic, rubber-plastic composite sheath and casing, not a metal one like the bottom portion of the picture displays.

Now to talk about functionality: The female port and the male post are shoddily constructed as evidenced by the fact that if you look at the rubberized plastic boot and the actual metal port of the female end of the extension, they are not level with each other and the rubberized plastic still has the fringes of the manufacturing process. Not only does it look cheap, it also sounds cheap. Any movement of the male post in the female extension port causes interference with the conduction and leads to a loud, crackling sound and sometimes leads to loss of audio in either channel (not due to the headphones or the heaphone 3.5mm jack, I double and triple checked). Same goes for the male post: when placed in a perfectly functioning stereo and the wire is moved about an axis, there is interference and loss of audio channels. Not only do you get interference and lose audio channels, you also lose intensity. A 6 foot extension shouldn't give you ANY loss of sound intensity, but this one does and it is quite noticeable.

The only reason this product is even getting 3 stars is because 1) it works, 2) it was cheap, 3) all I need it for is an extension for my desktop when I video chat, so there is hardly any movement about any of the ports/posts, so the interference is negligible, and the loss of intensity does not bother me since I'm not using it for music or entertainment. However, this sort of cable will probably not last too long seeing as the channels are going in an out already and it's (off)brand-new.

Should you buy this or not?
Yes, if you don't mind misrepresentation, paying for what you get and all you care about is whether it works or not and not about how well it works.
No, if you are a person looking for a Belkin product, hates misrepresentation and don't mind cheaply manufactured products that will die sooner probably rather than later.

No sound quality loss, great extension

I received this extension today. It has the word "Belkin" embossed on both connectors, and it looks sturdy. I tested it with my Tritton Trigger Xbox 360 headset, and I experienced no sound quality loss. The connections are a secure fit. I can hear them snap into place. Also, the extension came out of the plastic bag without any coil or bend in it. It laid flat right out of the packaging. I've always had good experiences with Belkin cables.

My Belkin Mini Stereo Extension 3.5mm Stereo Plug is still in wonderful condition after 20 months of use. It has been disconnected and reconnected to various devices many times, and the connection is still as secure as when I bought it. I suffer no sound loss. I use this extension with my TV, laptop, desktop, iPhone, Blackberry, ear buds from various brands, headphones and 3 different iPods (classic, touch and nano). This product offers a tight, secure fit with no detectable change in sound.

Some reviewers said they received generic cords rather than Belkin cords. Those reviews belong in the seller feedback section, and I recommend calling customer service since the product description is for a Belkin. I uploaded images showing the Belkin name printed and embossed on the extension I received. The Belkin extension works well and holds up well.

No Belkin Labeling ANYWHERE

Product was delivered quickly and efficiently. It came in a plastic bag, with a made in china label. Has no discernible Belkin label anywhere. It may well be a Belkin product, but there is nothing that would lead you to believe it really is; there is no labeling on the cable, there is no labeling on the package. The item does as it promises - provides you with a 6' cable that does work. Usually there is SOME tell...not here. It is possible belkin sells bulk cables to other manufacturers; it is possible this company may package cabling for Belkin sale and this might be that cable... I paid a bit more because I like knowing I am getting the product advertised but there isn't much to confirm that in this case.
