Gets the job done

This Belkin USB hub works as expected. It's a powered hub, which means you can use it to power-up USB chargeable devices, which is a nice feature. I just have two main complaints on this product.

First, the USB ports are too close together (there's two on each side). This is fine in most cases, but if you have a device that's wider than normal at the USB connection, then you might have trouble accessing the next-door port. Second, the part of the power cord that plugs into the wall is quite wide. If you are plugging into a normal wall socket, this isn't an issue, since the power adapter would extend horizontally to the side of wall socket. However, on a typical power strip, the adapter covers up one or two electric sockets, which seems like a design flaw to me. Besides these two issues, this hub works great.

Nice 4 Port Hub with an Attractive Look

I really like this 4-Port Powered Desktop Hub. We all know with all the peripherals out there these days we can never have enough open USB slots. This simple device gives us four more high speed USB 2.0 ports.

The device comes in three parts:
1.) The USB hub (2 and 5/8 inch square by a little over 0.5 inches deep)
2.) A Power plug (5 feet long)
3.) A USB 2.0 Cable [it is 4 feet long and standard USB (plug into your computer) to mini USB (plug into the USB hub)]

It is stated that this hub is compatible with both Windows and Mac. I had no problem getting it to work with my Windows PC and my Windows laptop. They even state that this will work with a netbook. Just plug and play and you are all set. There is no driver disk or anything needed.

The USB hub is actually recognized by my computer without using the supplied power cord (in other words it is able to be powered by the computer itself via the USB cable). That being said, I suspect the power plug is included for good reason and one would need to use it to power certain peripherals. For example, I tested an external CD/DVD drive and in order to have my computer recognize the drive and play a movie it was necessary to use the power cord.

The device does seem a little lightweight; however, I view that as a positive since that makes it very easy to travel with if I want to use it with a laptop.

The hub has two USB slots each on opposite sides and that is perfect for cord management.

Stylistically, this resembles an Apple TV device; however, it is much smaller as indicated above and it only has a shiny black finish on the top. The rest of the device is a matte white. It is a low profile device that is not only extremely portable, but it is also easy to blend with other electronic components.

Data transfer speeds are up to 480Mbps

The recommend system requirements are:
For PC:
Pentium processor with Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port available
Windows 98 SE, 2000, Me, XP, Vista, or 7
For Mac:
Mac OS 9.2 or higher for full-speed USB
Mac OS X v10.2.8 or higher for Hi-Speed USB 2.0

I have over a dozen Belkin devices and none of them have ever let me down.

doesn't power external HDs despite being "powered"

Despite the fact that this hub has a power supply, it doesn't power any of my external HDs. As this is the sole reason I purchased this hub, it's entirely useless. I can't imagine why it requires auxiliary power and yet can't power a HD. What on earth does it use that power for? There are no indicator lights, so that's not it. It is no better than a powerless hub, and not worth the extra money and having an extra wire around at all. Most disappointed.

This thing is FAST!

I had been using a Targus 4-Port USB 2.0 Bend-a-Hub with Mini USB Adapter ACH103US (Black), which had plenty of power to run everything I could throw at it. Printer? Yup. External harddrive? You bet. Then there was the assortment of other things like my mouse and speakers.

Then I tried the Belkin powered hub. My print jobs start faster, and I can back up my computer to the external hard drive much faster when they are connected to the Belkin. I don't know whether it's because it's a Belkin or because it plugs into its own power source, but I really like this hub and would suggest it to anybody needing a hub that will have heavy power users (like printers and hard drives) plugged into it.

Misrepresented Item by Amazon

I purchased two of these powered USB hubs, sold and shipped by Amazon. My old powered USB hub had indicator lights to show that it had power and that the ports were working properly. These hubs have no indicators so I called Belkin to see if there was some way that I could determine this information. I could not find this model number anywhere on their site and the Belkin agent had to search as well. He finally found that model is for sale in the Australia-Asian markets only and is a grey market item in the US. This item is made in China and would not be covered by any US Belkin warranty since it is a grey market item. I brought this to the attention of Amazon customer service. Hopefully they will do something about this. I expect better of Amazon!

Keep losing mouse control

I tried this on a 17" Macbook pro with an external monitor and USB keyboard and mouse. I try to use the laptop in clamshell mode, but this hub wouldn't recognize the mouse on bootup. It also disconnected the keyboard at random times. I replaced this with the Amazon Basics 4-port powered hub and have been much happier since doing so.

This is a respectable 4-port USB hub by Belkin. It does practically everything you would need a USB hub for, with one exception - charging an iPad.

Pros: Small and compact, easily accessible ports (2 on each side), included power supply, good transfer rates
Cons: Under-powered (won't charge and iPad) despite the external power supply

Good product

I bought this hub as a gift for a friend who needed a way to connect devices to a computer that was hidden far under a desk. It has been going strong for nearly a year now, and it certainly has saved her some back strain and bumps on the head from trying to connect a usb drive or two to the secluded computer.
