I bought this particular model about 1 year ago for my now, 4 year old son. We attached it to my hybrid bike which went on flawlessly. I've tried other bike seats in the past and this particular bike appear to be more complicated to install; however, it is very sturdy.

One fall morning, my family and I were on a long bike ride on a paved trail in Kansas City. It was fall, so a lot of the leaves have littered the tracks. We were going down on a somewhat steep hill (pretty fast) when we hit a large hole covered by a pile of wet leaves. We lost control, swerved, and suffered a fairly big crash. I suffered a torn meniscus on my left knee as I tried to stop the bike from falling on its side too strong, thus buckling my leg in. My son was asleep on the bike seat with a helmet on. I had tied an old sweatshirt on the side to give him more cushion room while sleeping.

The bike landed hard on its side, but the bike seat absolutely absorbed the impact away from my child. His helmet was not even touched. He barely noticed, because he was mildly started and instantly went back to sleep comfortably.

If it fits your bike, then I HIGHLY recommend this bike seat for the price. The plastic molding around the seat works very well as a protective feature. I simply cannot see many other seats providing this much protection.

We purchased the Bell Classic Bicycle Child Carrier based on its reviews and as an economical choice for our almost 2-year old who will only get about 1 year's use from it.

Now that it is on and we have test driven it, we like how he fits in it, and we feel comfortable with the safety it provides. It is nice, but not exceptional.

But getting the seat on....

Suffice to say that, as best as we can determine, this Child Carrier is made to attach to a road bike and not a hybrid bike, like ours (a Trek 7000). Our frame is thicker than that of a road bike, so attaching the seat to the rear fork was just barely possible with the hardware supplied. It was possible, but squeezing the brackets around the fork so that they were close enough for us to even begin tightening the nut took a lot of muscle! We also had the same problem as another reviewer, in that our bike has a quick-release seat, and does not have the kind of seat post bolt that the seat needs to be attached. We were able to remedy that by removing the quick-release mechanism, going to the local hardware store to purchase a 1/4-inch hex bolt (which fit in our bike's seat bracket), and using that instead of the provided 8 mm Hex Bold.

At one point in our construction of the Child Carrier, we got particularly frustrated, and tried to find some customer support. There was a 1-800 number, which was closed on the weekend, and absolutely zero on-line support. I have gotten used to having some sort of on-line resources available to me, even if it is only a copy of the owner's manual, so the absolute lack of *anything* was very frustrating. (There is plenty of information for Bell bicycle helmets, but nothing for the child carrier.)

So bottom line, if you have a hybrid bicycle (or, heaven forbid, a mountain bike), be aware that it might not assemble as easily as it should, and you may need to make an extra run to the hardware store!

I have to agree with the other reviews on how hard it is to assemble. The right and left support bars are not bent correctly. I had to use a wrench and pliers to force the bars to align enough to screw them together. The rest of the assembly was hard, too. But when it was all together, I put my 2 yr. old in the seat (with helmet), had my 5 yr. old get on his bike (with helmet), and (with my helmet on, too) away we went around the block. My 5 yr. old is so excited Mommy can ride a bike with him now, and my 2 yr. old loves the ride.
The assembly is hard, but the joy it gives my children is worth it.
The box the carrier came in states that the carrier will hold a child UP TO 40 LBS., which is why I bought this particular carrier in the first place. My child is 30 lbs. Therefore I'll be able to use this carrier for many months to come.

Well I ordered the other cheaper Bell child carrier for my 26" Schwinn Clairmont Hybrid beach cruiser (its hot pink and yellow with a white seat). That seat did go on but no way was my little girl going to be able to get into it and she is very petite for her age (she's 3 but has 2 year olds who are heavier than she is). The seat just sat too close to my seat on this particular bike. So I ordered this one. The box was a little beat up but the seat was perfectly fine. I had some trouble with the support bars going around the back rack on the bike but we were able to bend them just slightly (trust me if i can bend this you can. I couldn't punch my way out of a wet paper bag. :))and give the back supports a little more space to get around the rack on the back of the bike. After that, it went on smoothly and i was able to ride with my little passenger in about an hour after removing out of the box. Assembly was pretty easy but the few times i had to consult the instructions they weren't very clear, but i was able to figure it out. Let me tell you one thing, this thing is super sturdy. It does not move at all once on the bike and never wobbbles or makes any racket at all. I have on occasion clipped my heel on the foot rests of the seat but i simply moved my feet up a little on the pedals and haven't had any more issues. The seat cushion is pretty comfy and the seat has a 3 point harness for seat belt and a waist seatbelt as well. I think NASCAR drivers would approve of the safety belts. She is still able to move around and look at the scenery and I feel like she is still safe.
Things I like about this bike:
1. Sturdy
2. Safety harness is great and still is comfortable
3. My daughter is tall but slender and she still has plenty of room to grow in the seat.
