I regret buying these stupid things so much!!!!
So 4 stars because they actually arrived on time. Amazon seems to be slacking on the "2 day delivery" lately. That's why we cancelled prime.
And also all units are working. I did notice 1 unit didn't work when I plugged it in. So I tried it in a different room. It's working now. I know some of the outlets in our house are old. Some we've replaced..some we haven't. The outlet where it wasn't working is one that hasn't been replaced yet.
As far as how effective they are...I'm unsure yet since we just got them today. I've been having severe tiny black ant problems. We live in the SF Bay area and it's just been a bad year for them. I've been doing my best to seal them out with caulk. That seems to be the most effective. But it's not completely possible to seal 100%. So I'm trying out these. So far the cats (we have 3) seem unfazed by them. They were interested in the blinking light at first but that's all. And again, if you have rodent pets don't get these (like hamsters etc.)
I will try to come back and update the review. For now the ants seem to be taking a break. We've just gotten 5.5" of rain so it was just impossible to get rid of them.
I placed one in the one key area you don't want pests, in the kitchen. I can hear the click not only in the kitchen but also from the nook, living room and dining room. And that's with only 1 unit plugged in.
I plugged one in my home office (roughly 10' x 15') and the clicks are too loud for fairly normal sized room.
I wanted one in the bedroom but I am sure the clicking will just annoy me and the wife so no dice there.
I really wanted to buy the ones I previous purchased but it looks like they were discontinued.

It also has a LED to let you know it is on/working but makes no sound (that a human can hear).
I was hoping this would be a good replacement for the other units I have, but those clicks will drive me crazy. Maybe Bell + Howell will change their design in future versions of this product. But the one is not for me.
*** UPDATE #1: I have read few reviews here that say the clicking volume is anywhere from "faint" to "loud". To give you some perspective, I left the one in the kitchen plugged in and ran the dishwasher since it was full. Standing next to the dishwasher while it was running I could still hear the click, although barely. But of course in a nice quiet kitchen (or bedroom) it is too loud to considered acceptable.
After the bread incident I put out a good old-fashioned mouse trap with a dog treat in it (the mouse seemed to enjoy it before). Woke up the next morning with a dead mouse. No evidence of mice since then, and it has been weeks. Even unplugged the repellers and no mice, so it is doubtful these are doing anything to keep mice away.
Oh yeah, I also put a few of these in a storage unit as a preventative measure, and notice it hasn't deterred spiders one bit, even though the product claims it will keep spiders at bay. If I had the original packaging I would have returned these, but you have to destroy the packaging to get these out, so I threw the packaging away after opening. I wish I wouldn't have purchased these. If you think they will work for you, I would recommend saving the packaging because your experience will likely be the same. I think other people on here who these "work for," it was just coincidence that they cleaned up and the rodents went somewhere else to find food.
I think Ultrasonic stuff doesn't work. I bought an ultrasonic dog collar and it didn't stop my dark from barking one bit. Got him a shock collar by the same company, and he stopped his annoying barking that day. I'll never buy any ultrasonic repeller/deterrent again.
