Even a confirmed bachelor can meet his match.Because sometimes fairy tales do come true...
OF ALL THE FABLED TREASURES
Bella Jones feels like a fish out of water in civilized England. Raised abroad by her explorer father, she's amused by the very proper manners of the nobility. Nevertheless, to save her younger siblings from ruin, she must infiltrate a ducal household in order to find the map to an ancient treasure trove. Alas, the haughty, handsome duke stands in her way...unless she can tame his beastly temper, that is.
THE MOST PRECIOUS ONE IS LOVE
Miles Grayson, the Duke of Aylwin, prefers antiquities to, well, everything else. Especially prying females with their irksome questions. But Bella's blue eyes and beguiling smile are improbably charming, and the temptation of her kiss is impossible to resist. As the pair is swept into a mystery that reaches back to their childhoods, Miles realizes that Bella has made the rarest discovery of all-the key to his heart...

The hero is immediately attracted to the heroine and I liked that but the author made a point to say 'he hadn't visited a discreet house in covent garden in several weeks where he could have his pick of beauties' and then while the hero is lusting heavily after the heroine he decides to go to said house and we actually have to deal with him bedding a whore after leaving the heroine. Gross. Yuck. And that colored me blind to his goodness. I mean I've read where the hero had went to said houses to get the heroine out of there mind but weren't able to go through with it and I feel that would have been best here also. And then for him to leave the whore and go home and then proceed to kiss the heroine and fondle her right after???? Disgusting. Touching her with hands that have been only goodness know where on the whores body and his mouth also. And he didn't care. And then proceeded to bed the heroine a night later...what was the point of a bawdy house visit? Just not my cup of tea. Umm no. That's not the book hero for me. Then it was a cold front from him right after finding release with the heroine.
Finished the rest-- apparently a cupids arrow hit him with thin the last 15 pages cause it was 'oh my love my one true love blah blah blah' came out of nowhere for me.
Now with that said I can safely say I REALLY enjoyed this one, I think one of my PR type contacts must have sent this to me because I can't see me picking it out but I was in a odd mood the other night and grabbed it and was captivated by the premise within a few pages and could hardly put it down. You will see the word "captivating" in many of the reviews and that is because you are hooked into this story even when nothing is really happening, all signs of a great book.
The conversation and verbal jousting between Miles (the beast of the title) and Bella was exceptional reading and kept the book entertaining in places where the story normally would have dragged.
One other thing I REALLY liked is that there is no requirement to read the other books in this series before this one, it stands alone with no problem, there was no sense of confusion at any point in the reading that happens many times when you read a series out of order.
I was sure I was going to give this 5 Star but it seems like it kind of sputtered into the ending in the last few pages after "the big bad thing" was taken care of, I wish the author has taken just a bit more time but it may well be I am the only one who feels this way but for my money this is Highly recommended and 4 Stars, your mileage may vary :)
