Disc One is the original album in all its remastered glory.
Disc Two contains real gems. There's a previously unreleased studio takes of "Gold and Braid," "The Dealer," and "If You Were My Love" along with alternate versions of "Think About It," "How Still My Love," "Leather and Lace," and "Sleeping Angel." The disc also includes an incredible demo of the title track as well as an 'early take' of "Edge of Seventeen." Rounding out Disc Two are remastered versions of the original releases "Sleeping Angel," which went to the soundtrack for 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High' and "Blue Lamp," from the 'Heavy Metal' soundtrack. If you're a lover of demos, alternate takes, and unreleased material this will be your favorite disc.
Disc Three contains the famous concert from the short tour for Bella Donna, filmed and recorded at the Fox Wilshere Theater on December 13th, 1981. An edited version of this concert would later be shown on HBO in 1982. The only real bummer with this set is that Disc Three is audio only - a DVD would have been thrilling. If you've ever seen performances from this show - and I believe they're all on YouTube - then you know it was a damn good show. In lieu of that live DVD, we get MOST of that concert, including four songs that were edited out of the HBO concert. "Angel," "Leather and Lace," "Bella Donna," and "How Still My Love" were edited out (for time constraints, perhaps???) of the performance seen on HBO. Those four tracks are put back in here for the live audio. "Blue Lamp" and "Think About It" were also performed at this show, but for some reason those live performances did not make this disc.
Finally, on to the packaging ... I've posted pictures. The final treat here is the booklet that comes with the set. In addition to song lyrics and credits, you get several pages of liner notes, including Stevie and her producer/romantic partner at the time, Jimmy Iovine, talking about how 'Bella Donna' and Stevie's solo career came to be.
*** The CD packaging did get a bit scuffed up during shipping. I will report this issue to Amazon and hopefully they will exchange for me.
*I will add, also, that while the demos were a mixed bag, the concert from 1981 added is not to be missed. Stevie's voice opens up with so much passion by the end of the show that you feel you're in the auditorium. One of the few live discs bunded with a remaster I have listened to and enjoyed thoroughly.
Now, after 3 hit albums with Fleetwood Mac, Stevie did a big solo album of her own in 1981. It is perhaps her best solo effort, though she would continue to have success with later albums, most notably "Wild Heart" after doing "Mirage" in 1982 with Fleetwood Mac.
We not only get a newly remastered CD album, but 3 CDs and nicely done liner notes to boot! Whoever personally worked on this set deserves major kudos from me and 5 stars just for the packaging.
CD 1 is the complete original album, remastered in all it's glory!
CD 2 is a bonus tracks album consisting of 11 alternate, demo, early take, unreleased tracks, with 2 of them being from motion pictures.
"Blue Lamp" from Heavy Metal Soundtrack /"Sleeping Angel" from Fast Times At Ridgemont High Soundtrack.
CD 3 is just fabulous. It is a Live concert from 1982 before she went on tour to promote "Mirage" for the band Fleetwood Mac. I have a Concert 2 CD set from them in 1982, San Bernardino, Ca. It is the US Festival.
