There's just nothing about this storyline I like or would recommend. Well edited, acted, etc. but the storyline just stinks. The whole time you don't know where it's going and at the end she suddenly shows up to say hi to a 5 yr old she gave up and didn't raise from the time it was an infant? And we're supposed to assume he raised her? No. Just NO.

Touching and true to life.....Bella.

I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this film. I did not expect to keep watching, but it pulled me in. Beautifully made, realistic and raw emotion. This film, the sound, the story, feels authentic and true to heart. At first I felt unsatisfied with the ending, but then I realized that the story stays true to life, its not the perfect fairy-tale romance we tend to hope for. Rather, importantly, it explores true-to-life, heart-wrenching decisions that we can never fully comprehend unless we're in those shoes...this movie is refreshing and real. Bella.

Watch this movie. It’s wonderful!

A beautiful life-affirming film about a woman who chooses to give her baby life and give it to a friend for adoption. I’m surprised by the negative reviews, though I suppose I shouldn’t be. Shocks me that anyone could be upset about a woman choosing to give life to her baby instead of aborting it. Watch this movie. It’s wonderful.

nice drama movie, but the plot is somewhat confusing

Interesting movie but lacking some clarification. So did Jose adopt Nina's baby? It's the feeling I got, but it wasn't clear in the moview as time line was not specified. Was it supposed to be romantic? Because it wasn't. It just looks like Jose wanted to adopt the baby to make up for the death of the child that he killed in an accident, not becuase he loved Nina and wanted to be with her. It's the kind of movie you would see once and never watch it again.

Misogynistic, boring, and predictable

Just another movie where a woman who wants an abortion is portrayed as indecisive and desperate. And then a man swoops in to save the day (at least that's where it was going. I couldn't get through the first 30 min). Can we please move on from these unrealistic, one-dimensional views of women's lives and bodies? This is the kind of simple- mindedness that keeps us from discussing and seeing abortion as a women's rights issue and a procedure that a very large percentage of the population with uteruses chooses to have at some point in their lives.

Bella is a heartwarming love story about life, relationships, and our capacity for love in the face of the unexpected. Bella took the top prize at Toronto’s International Film Festival by winning the highly-coveted “People's Choice Award”. This DVD and movie guide can be used to teach students about the themes of forgiveness, loss, courage, and love interwoven with lessons about Hispanic culture, World Cup Soccer, Puerto Rico, and Spanish Harlem. Rated PG 13

Story falls apart - disappointing!
Verified purchase
SPOILER ALERT! This movie started out interesting and had potential, but pretty much fell apart at the end. The movie is billed as a “love story” but yet we are left to assume Nina has a baby she didn’t want only to give the child to her friend Jose to adopt (who she has only known during her pregnancy); leaves for several years (why?), only to reappear five years later to claim her child and be part of the happy family? So weird. Not hardly a love story, but a woman who caves into pressure not to have an abortion, only to abandon the child for five years because her friend has guilt over a tragedy in his life. Unfortunately, the story is disjointed and leaves the viewer wondering WTH just happened!
