Belle is 15 years old when she is forced into a relationship with Eric after he rapes her, holding her brother's future in his hands. Yet she sees a light at the end of the tunnel when he graduates and will be leaving for college.
Unfortunately for Belle things don't go as planned and soon she finds herself running for her life.
I have mixed reviews about this book for different reasons.
I thought the book was extremely well written and it was definitely dark. Once the book begins you are involved in it emotionally and you cross your fingers for salvation for Belle and those she loves.
I hated that Belle never opened up to anyone about what she was going through and felt like she had to hold it in. Belle believes the only thing she can do is run and does a good job of hiding but when she reaches out the worst happens and Belle loses someone she cares about.
Lately we have lost so many people to certain decisions they made and I think this book shows that the decision Belle made was the right one yet in the book she never once told anyone what she was going through. I think even in fiction our culture needs to show the importance of getting help for rape and telling someone. I understand why Belle did what she did at the end but I wish it didn't come to that.
There was no justice for anything that Eric did and in a world like ours that saddens me, even in fiction.
Belle's Story starts off to the point of how it all went down. Its not happy or sweet. But Your left with NO answers no back story on Eric. The Chapters are Past and Present but they are told in same time so Its confusing.
Eric stalked Belle he found his target he befriended her brother Brennan to get closer to Belle. The day he makes his move is the same day everything changes. NO build up no anything. Then No one notices anything after her behavior for a year of being beaten, abused, and no friends. Her and her brother where close and he saw nothing asked nothing. Plus Where the hell are her parents the whole book they are never there.
When she finally left with the help of his friend Jackson. He also knew something was up with Eric and he NEVER told either. Like come on. Then she does well for a kid on the run finally growing a pair and figuring crap out. To go back to being stupid I dont get it. Her plan was so dumb to catch him for her to be caught.
When he ends up missing too no one is suspicious that other kid is gone . I mean did her parents even look for her when she left? The Cabbie the guy at the store they all suspected something SHES A KID and no one did anything.
I just dont get it I mean her only choice was what she did by then because No one left to help her she couldnt help herself
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is a standalone horror book without any type of HEA. This is the story of Belle, a young girl blackmailed and tortured for 2 years, until a solution appears to her. The story revolves around the sadistic and evil behavior of Eric and what he puts Belle through at the young age of only 15. The descriptions of the tortures and rapes are horrific and set the stage for Belle’s decision in the end.
>Belle comes from a loving family, especially her older brother, Brennan. Once she is raped for the first time, I didn’t understand why she kept it to herself. Eric threatens Brennan’s track career at school if she tells, but that is hardly life threatening. Even after the first beating, she had proof to go to the police, but hides out for a year. She states she picks up odd jobs for money, but she is only 16 years old. No one who hired her reported her to the police?
>The story is definitely hard to read. Belle’s actions at the end seem terrible, but almost positive if compared to the rest of the book. These situations do occur in real life, yet the reactions from her parents do not seem true to life, causing the book to just want to be a horror story that is depressing.
>This story is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the story 3 stars. This story seemed to just want to use shock value more than an actual plot.
I liked belle, she was really strong and survived things she shouldn't have had to at her age. As story story went on and she got older you could see her grow even more.
This was Belles story and the things that happened to her. It's not pretty but it was a story that gripped my heart. It deals with heavy subject and I did feel the author did those subjects justice.
Overall, the author has an awesome imagination, and the idea of this book was awesome. Like I stated above I just felt that certain aspects of it we're just too unrealistic for me to really love the story. I would read more from her in the future. 3 stars #2OCCJD
