Editorial Reviews

Book 1 of the Chloe Parsons Mysteries
Book 2, "Death of a Texan", is available now!
"Set in Costa Rica, this is an impressive debut, filled with thrills, spills, creepiness and a delicious sprinkling of humour and romance. The setting is so special, beautiful, lush, and warm, yet at the same time, the author uses the landscape to suggest the twisty hidden darkness within this magnificent rainforest location. I loved all the characters, from the cheeky young bellhop Jamie, to Sopie the small, blue-haired yoga teacher, who is great fun, embracing the problem of the missing bellhops by playing the tough, streetwise cop - she is eccentric, and funny, and so beautifully observed. I particularly liked the main protagonist Chloe, a woman who arrives on the island unsure of herself and her future, who becomes stronger, and more independent with every step of her journey. Not only does she set herself the task of finding the missing bellhops, but she also has some personal issues to deal with - and all is wrapped up well at the end, in a satisfying, but brilliantly twisty finale!"
- Sue Watson, USA Today Best-Selling author of The Sister InLaw
"A wonderful, fast-paced adventure in Costa Rica, with a cracking set of characters... what could be better? The main character is Chloe, a girl on holiday in a complex, having left her fiancé at home. He doesn't like holiday, or seemingly anything else that Chloe likes. She meets up with Kaia and Sopie, two like-minded girls, and the holiday progresses until bellhops start to go missing. There's a little bit of detecting, a little bit of love, a little bit of drugs and a cracking amount of extremely good story-telling. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the pace and the people - a thumbs up for all the p's in this one, and I look forward to the next book by this talented author. A full five stars from me."
~ AnitaWaller, Best-Selling Author of the Kat and MouseSeries
"The Bellhop Only Stalks Once is a work of fiction in the thriller and suspense sub-genres, and was penned by author Cat Hickey. Written for adult audiences due to scenes of moderate violence, some moderate sex scenes and a few references to drug usage, this intriguing and fast-paced thriller novel starts off in an idyllic paradise where it seems nothing could ever go wrong. Chloe arrives at the Club Pacifica with high hopes for fun and frolic, but an overly flirty bellhop begins to follow her in a less than flattering fashion. But it's only when the bellhop vanishes entirely that the plot really thickens, forcing Chloe to face a variety of secrets that she never wanted to uncover.

Author Cat Hickey has crafted a totally engrossing work of mystery and suspense which unfolds with surprise after surprise. Thriller fans are sure to find lots of edge-of-seat moments in the sharp grammar and clever story structure, which manages to give plenty of hints and clues without giving the main game away until the right moment. I felt that the atmospheric language really added to the different scenes around the resort area, shifting beautiful vistas into dark, shadowy, and dangerous locations. Chloe makes for a fresh-faced protagonist caught in the middle of things, and I enjoyed how she developed and grew as a character whilst the novel was in progress. Overall, I would definitely recommend The Bellhop Only Stalks Once for all readers seeking a deeply involved mystery with plenty of gasps and guessing."
~ 5 Star Review, Reader's Favorite
"Author Cat Hickey has crafted a charming mystery that intrigues from the very start. Chloe is looking for an escape from her life and her overbearing fiancée. Tof ind some solace and assess the direction her life is heading, she travels to Costa Rica to unwind and reset. Instead of relaxation, she finds herself pestered by a bellhop who's taken a shining to her. It's a relief of sorts when the bellhop disappears, however unusual the circumstances. As more bellhops begin disappearing, Chloe can't help but feel there's something more going on. This isn't the relaxing holiday she imagined. The Bellhop Only Stalks Once brings Costa Rica to life with vivid descriptions of place. Hickey describes the action of the plot with precision, capturing the readers' imagination with crystal clear imagery. And thanks to its excellent pace, the novel turns out to not only be enjoyable, but quick too. The character of Chloe, though at times perhaps naive, is intensely likable. She's the type of person to go on holiday and befriend almost everyone she meets. Staff and guests of the resort included. She is not a typical detective, motivated by mystery and intellectual problem-solving. Rather, her compassion and adventurous spirit drive her actions throughout the novel. The reader desires to see her succeed, not only in solving the mystery but in resolving her life issues too. This journey of self-discovery for Chloe is almost as large a part of the plot as the mystery itself. It's nice to read a mystery that is driven by both character and plot."

"A delightful blend of intrigue and romance all wrapped up in an exotic Costa Rican setting. A dazzling debut from a great new talent."

Cat Hickey writes mysteries and thrillers that are based, partly, on her travels around the world. She loves to experience other countries and has so far been to South America, Africa, Europe, and Central America. Her first book, "The Bellhop Only Stalks Once", was inspired by a trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua, where she discovered a love for the concept of "Pura Vida" and was also slightly mauled by army ants.

She is an avid yogi who teaches aerial yoga and practices aerial circus arts, and spends the rest of her time with her four rescue animals, which consist of three cats and a slightly moody horse.
