You might be wondering, why create a series of belly dancer coloring books?
Well, it's an interesting story. In 2005, my wife passed away. I was in grief, as you can imagine. We were married for 12 1/2 years and she was the love of my life.
I started photographing renaissance faires as a way to handle the grief and depression, and one day I sat down in front of a stage to photograph belly dancers. The troupe was called Oojahm and was run by a dancer named Marjhani.
I loved the dance. The colors, aesthetics, movement and beauty all helped me overcome the grief. I met all of the dancers, and we all became friends. I wound up photographing most of the shows performed by Oojahm.
Later, I ran into more and more dancers, and before long was photographing two, three and even a dozen shows a week. I gained hundreds of new friends in the dance community, and I value all of those friendships greatly.
I photographed well over 1,200 events and did countless shoots for individual dancers. Also, I produced over a dozen events myself and sponsored half a dozen others.
In 2013 my life changed and I moved to Florida. I left my job with Trader Joe's (early retirement) to start a new career as a professional author and ghostwriter.
I decided to create this series of coloring books because these dancers are a wonderful group of ladies and their images are very colorful and appropriate for adult coloring books.I think people will enjoy coloring the pages and getting a look into this dance form.
My goal is to present the beauty and passion of the belly dance community to the world.
