From the traditional "O Death" to the uncharacteristically optimistic "She Divines Water" and "Life Is Grand," this 1988 major-label debut from Santa Cruz's premiere ska-polka-surf-Balkan-country-alternative-pop band is more consistent than its indie predecessors, just not as sporadically brilliant. --Bill Forman

Camper's most polished work.

The Hardest Rock they ever recorded,
but still has the blending of Reggae, Country, violin and the unique Camper Sound..

Possibly the greatest driving music ever recorded.

The soaring guitars introducing the album mimic liftoff in the finest flying machine.
My album for automobile, trucking, or desert island.

Can't live without it.

I describe this to my straight friends as California Cannabis Smoker Music.
You will wear out your copies so you may need more than one.

My children and I may have spun this disc over 1000 times, and it never gets old.

There's never been one like it, before or after.
Once in a lifetime.
This should be a Hall of Fame album.
I'm not the only one who thinks this.

The new remaster sounds great. It's clearly better sounding than my old cd copy of the album. In fact, I've owned the album on all three formats and I think I enjoy this new edition best. What's even better is that the new package has a wonderful booklet including writing on the album and pictures from the era. The digipak also better replicates the album art than did the old CD booklet. Nice work! You also get a host of extra tracks. Several era-specific live tracks. Even if you are a collector of CVB live recordings, like me, I bet you may not be familiar with these. There are also all of the b-sides from the Life is Grand 12", the "Pope Festival" version of "The Fool" and the edit of "Eye of Fatima pts. 1 & 2" previously available only on promo-only discs sent to radio. It's a total package celebrating the OBRS era!
