Smart Eco Mode

The Smart Eco mode is designed to use only the exact amount of lamp power a projector needs to deliver the best contrast performance. With this feature, schools get to provide students and teachers uncompromised projection quality and reduce the total cost of ownership by extending the lamp life and lowering power consumption.

No Source Detected Mode

There will be times when a projector is turned on without a display source, such as a classroom PC or notebook. To avoid a projector from running with full lamp power, BenQ created the No Source Detected Mode to lower the projector lamp brightness to 30% after the projector has remained unconnected to a display source for more than three minutes.

0.5W in Standby Mode

When inactive, the MW519 keeps power consumption to a minimum with 0.5W standby power, achieving what was once a challenge for earlier projector models. This technological advancement in energy saving certainly helps extend the projector lamp life and lower energy costs.

OK, I'm using this as a Home Theater projector. It's 1280X800 which is 16:10 and considered Full HD. All my PC monitors are 16:10 cause I like the extra realestate as opposed to the 16:9 widescreens. Anyways, I figured, give it a shot and hope I can live with it, turns out, I LOVE it!! I bought it for the 2800 Lumens and the 13,000:1 contrast ratio. In my eyes, that's the best of both worlds. Otherwise, you get a really dark picture with Home theater or really bright with business projectors. This, with Smart-Eco on and the high contrast is PERFECT for most living room settings in my opinion.

I figure being it's labeled as a "business projector", I'd have to tweak the picture a bunch..... NOT THE CASE! Right out of the box, it looked VERY good!! Since, I've adjusted only the brightness and contrast. However, for sports, I did adjust the greens down some, that's it!! It's color management lets you adjust 6 different colors for hue, gain and saturation. Honestly, if you can't find your perfect picture, you got other things to worry about more. Also, it has 4 presets and 2 user picture setting. All of which you can tweak to your liking. Lastly, it has "brillant color" which has 4 options, warm, normal, cool and off. Basically, for me, it's like comparing a "soft white" (yellowish) to a daylight light bulb. I prefer cool(whiter) but some may prefer a softer warm color. Actually, it more depends on your other setting that will determine where this setting looks best. Anyways, you can adjust this for all 6 main setting.

The other reason I bought this is it has FULL 3D built in. You can use any 3D enabled set-top box and it automatically decodes the format. You can also FORCE 2D to 3D conversions by going in to the setting and turning it on. I found "Frame Sequential" works the best.

Here's how it goes : I'm not deeply into technical aspects of projectors. I'm just a guy who wanted an upgrade from my LG 46" 3d tv. I always had this teenage fascination of playing games like god of war/crysis on a huge theater screen. Finally I've fulfilled my mad fantasy without burning my pocket :)
I checekd out a couple of demos of epson/mitsubishi/optoma. At this price range, i think no one competes with benq. The value for money is incredible. The brightness of this projector surprised me. I've a 10 feet(diagnol) screen. the brightness is the same as watching a LED TV(!) even under indoor light, the screen is perfectly visible. I'm feeling like m watching a 120 inch TV rather than staring at a dull barely visible projected image.Colors & contrast are beautiful, games like god of war, killzone etc look stunning in HD on a 10 feet screen. Every detail in skin, environment are perfectly visible. there's no lag either when playing fast games. Blu ray on nature like "planet earth" look fantastic - the grass, trees, leopard fur ... OH! eye droppingly gorgeous.
Edit : there's no way m buying benq glasses since they cost $150(!) a pair. u can buy their projector at the cost of buying 3 of their glasses. I told the salesman to kiss (my) chocolate starfish. I got sainsonic 3d glasses yesterday & Overall the 3d effect is good stuff at this price. Animated movies like madagascar3 looks amazing on this screen. PS3 games in 3D are a mixed bag, it seems the PS3 lowers its resolution to handle 3D games, so u may miss all the eye candy in the 2d versions of resistance/killzone. there are no problems in syncing, the glasses sync with the projector without any issues.

1 star minus only cos there is one weird thing : the projector only allows u to change the contrast & brightness.

I purchased this in late march I was very happy with the projector when I got it. Good picture, nice and bright. I then tried out the projector with a 3d movie. It didn't seem to be adjusted quite right so I was using the remote to adjust some of the settings, when the remote suddenly stopped controlling the projector and the only thing that worked was manually controlling it from the panel physically on the projector. Which is not really fun when it is mounted up near the ceiling. So I figured oh no problem I will just contact the company and get a fix. Well not so fast first you have to get BENQ to actually respond to one of the emails I sent them regarding the problem. So far not one single response and the vendor who sold it says that any problems are BENQ's issue since it was shipped straight from the manufacturer. So just be aware that support for the MW519 appears to be non-existent so far. And no I am not one of these paid advertisers that write reviews for so many of the items you see on Amazon. I just want people to know about real issues that I would want to know about if the situation was reversed.

UPdate: The seller was kind enough to point out that I was now past the 30 day return window and still no answer from BenQ on this projector. Oh and almost forgot at the start of all this I did talk to an online tech support quy who said he had never heard of this problem and could give me no answer so he also told me to fill out an online query to his employer BENQ.

BenQ MW519 2800 Lumen WXGA DLP Smarteco Projector. I bought this projector brand new for $450.00 on about August 2012. I gave this and many other comparable projectors a good amount of research and review-reading and the BenQ MW519 came at the top of my selection. I have not use it myself because it was a donation. However, I did the initial settings and ran it a couple of hours. I noticed that it is easy to set up, easy to operate and it displays excellent quality of video. Its construction is fairly solid without excessive weight as comparable projectors of other brands that, for the sake of light weight and portability, leave you with the distinct impression that it is an array of electronic components and optics encased in a cheap box. As for the sound, it is best to buy an extra pair of portable speakers, like those used with PCs, if you plan to use this projector in rooms and for audiences larger than those of an average school classroom. I noticed that pairing this machine with an Apple laptop can be difficult but so is the case with plenty of of other hardware and software items that are not made to conform Apple products. The BenQ MW519 has been used an average of eight hours a month and has been given proper care and handling, however, the life of the light bulb remains to to be tested. It is a projector of excellent quality and of good construction yet fairly light and portable and, for that price, I recommend it with five stars.
