Sometimes the worst moment of your life can lead you to the future you were meant to live. Lacey was witness to her boyfriend's infidelity and her flight from the heart breaking will send her careening into the icy bowels of a frigid lake. She awoke in the arms of her future, while discovering she had been hurtled over thirty years into the past.
For Bobby, a successful and well-loved businessman, the woman he found unconscious stole his heart the minute she opened her eyes. Once Lacey realizes she is no longer in the year 2012, she must convince Bobby of events in the future that are about to happen. His huge leap of faith for the intelligent and unusual woman will change his future forever.
For as much as Lacey longs to go home, she realizes home is where her heart is, but there must be a way to return, but how to discover the mystery of the portal is the question. Will she bring devastating changes to the future by being here or was this Fate's plan all along?
Only time will tell, as two hearts come together across time only to be separated again. Is there a time for Bobby and Lacey to be together? At what cost to those they love? Will their love bring doom to future generations?
Beneath the Lake by Casi McLean is a fantasy of romance, of true love knowing no bounds and she has captured the spirit of love in its purest form, even as her characters must face the bizarre circumstances they met under. From pain to joy, to disbelief to believing in miracles, Ms. McLean has created a finely woven tale that flows like a satiny sheet across the mind and heart. Her writing will make a believer out of even the most skeptical of non-believers in love. Let go of reality and take a stroll back in time.

Beneath the Lake by Casi McLean
I really do admire these time-traveling heroines who manage to stay strong and in control when they discover that they've been transported to a different century. They realize they need to fit in in order to survive. Let's just say I would definitely be one of those people being pulled away by the men in white coats.
What's it About?
Reeling from her boyfriend's indiscretions at a party, Lacey Montgomery escapes into the throes of a torrential storm. Her car spins out of control and hurtles into the depths of an icy, black lake. She awakens in the arms of a handsome stranger, in a place she's never heard of--thirty-four years before she was born. Bobby Reynolds is smitten the moment the storm-ravaged woman opens her eyes. Learning the truth about her origin does nothing to stop the passion taking root in his heart and leaves him torn between finding a way to return Lacey to her time and convincing her stay with him. Will the couple be able to discover the key to a mysterious portal before time rips them apart? Or will their spirits wander forever through a ghost town buried beneath the lake?
When Lacey finds herself in 1949, she's inexplicably drawn to her handsome hunk of a rescuer, Bobby. Although he's her knight in shining armor, she becomes convinced that Bobby is playing her like a fiddle. Not to mention the fact that she could be sucked back to her own time at any moment, and Lacey refuses to give her heart over fully to the young man. Well now isn't that quite a pickle? Although Lacey was wary of Bobby's intentions, I absolutely loved him. He's such a gentleman, and I wish we could have learned more about him. I also wish there would have been a bit more focus on them actually falling love. It seemed like one minute they were trying to find the time travel portal Lacey traveled through, and the next they were smitten like a pair of kittens.
Time Travel Twist
This novel has a unique twist as far as time travel romances go. When Lacey falls back in time the story becomes split between her in the 1950's, as well as a man in 2012 who is apparently plotting Lacey's eventual fall through time. Throughout the entire book we question who this man is, and why he's so set on manipulating Lacey's future/past .... definitely a unique twist that set it apart from your average time travel book.

Series: The end definitely implies there will be a sequel following another character.
From the Author
Nadine Find the time for this book!
Propelled back and forth in time, this paranormal romance story has all the ingredients of suspense and mystery to keep you listening/reading...the further I dove into this story the more I was drawn in.
Adriana B The Best Time Travel Romance!
I'm so glad I decided to give this book a try. The author is new to me but she has woven a great time travel romance with suspense, intrigue, and love. The narration was well done and brought the story to life. This was definitely a story that required my full attention! The story alternates between 2012 & 1949 with Lake Lanier as an important focus. The author did an amazing job describing everything and she draws you in and keeps you enthralled. The story is suspenseful and expertly woven to keep you engaged. I think the author did an amazing job. It sounded so believable the way the characters behaved. If time travel was possible, it could definitely happen like this! This is truly an imaginative story with great well developed characters. Lacey is a great main character! Bobby is so nice and understanding! This is by far the best time travel story I have read!
AudioBook Romance Love can defy time!
Time travel stories can go wrong so easily...but this one went so right! If time travel sounds daunting to you, pay attention to the time and dates. I'm a big fan of Doctor Who so the concept of multiple timelines doesn't phase me.
The story was well written and heartfelt. The steam factor is light. This story takes place around Lake Lanier, Georgia, which I have lived near at one point in time. I never knew that much detail. The LAKE in Beneath The Lake is of great importance and in a way its own character. Without it, there would be no story. The story has multiple time lines running concurrently, all focusing around Lacey Madison Montgomery. She finds her boyfriend in a compromising position at the beginning of the book which becomes the catalyst for her late night ride into the storm that changes her life forever.
This is my first read/listen by Casi McLean and I want more. She wove an excellent story of love and endurance that I could not stop listening to. Aundrea Mitchell does an excellent narration. The character voices both male and female are distinct and well done. This gets 5 time bending hearts out of 5 from me and recommended to anyone who loves a good romantic read with a stellar HEA.

In this case, this had the effect that it wasn’t at all clear to me that this was a time-travel story, and could entirely have been a crime thriller or such; the wording was clearly intentionally ambiguous throughout. Notwithstanding the description making it clear that there is time travel at hand, the book itself avoided confirming it, gave no indication of anything paranormal going on beyond that one little thing (of waking up in the 1940s, far enough from the bulk of civilisation that it could have been a complex trick), and gave many hints that the male protagonist may be a con artist at best, something much less savoury at worst.
However, as things go on, the more things and people present make it difficult to believe it’s a trick, yet the occasional dips into the present-day goings-on make it difficult to believe that it’s not all an elaborate and well-planned ruse, painstakingly researched and actuated.
Anyway, I can say the writing is excellent, there’s a great deal of detail that’s gone into the historical aspect of the novel, and I really appreciate that. The mystery unravelling is also splendidly done, and it took me until the start of the denouement to understand what had been going on the whole time.
All in all, a great book well-written, and I highly recommend it.
I found myself drifting when the author felt it was time to provide imagery which isn't totally fair. While we needed to understand and fully embrace the time change portion of the read all of the details kinda had my mind wondering even though I could appreciate it, kinda. There is a bit of a mystery and while it was a great twist that kept the story interesting I also found myself confused at some spots. Take all of this with a grain of salt because it doesn't distract enough to change that I really enjoyed the read and how it played out. I do enjoy this authors style and even with the things that caused minor bumps it isn't enough to push me away.
Casi writes time travel romances that are multifaceted in the manner in which she develops both her story line and her exceptional characters. She dares to open her book with a teaser – ‘Was the spine-chilling figure that had lurked in the shadows still up there somewhere, or had he been far enough away when I crashed? I shook my head. It made little difference since I had no choice but to take my chances on the road. I began the ascent, trudging back up the incline. Rain pelted my face like tiny needles. Darkness surrounded me. No moon, no stars, only the deep of night. Heart pounding from exertion and emotions still raw, I slogged upward through mud, brush, and Lord knows what else. Finally, a dim light flickered on the road above. Praying it was a house, a phone, an end to this nightmare, I strained my aching legs to push forward. “Thank you, God,” I whispered, glancing over my shoulder at my wrecked car below. That’s when my foot slipped. I slid backward, spiraled off the rocky ledge. Twisting to grab ahold of anything to keep me from plummeting downward, I lurched, my wet hands and battered body ripping against jagged rocks and brush. Out of nowhere, a dark figure grabbed my arm. Frozen in fear, I screamed as loud as I could, but the shriek came out a hoarse, low whisper. I lunged against him, yanked to pull free, but I had no leverage, nothing to cling to. Fear choked the air from my lungs. A sharp pain slashed my ankle. Consumed with terror, I flung the entire weight of my body against his grasp. In answer to my prayers, he abruptly let go, but the sudden release hurled me backward, plunging…rolling endlessly…until I splashed into an icy, black abyss.‘
She then opens her story with an event in 2011 – ‘A final thud hurled him backward, flailing through brush and thickets like a rag doll. Grasping at anything to break momentum, Rob’s hand clung to a branch wedged into the face of the precipice. Spiny splinters sliced his skin. Blood oozed and trickled into his palms, and one by one, his fingers slowly slipped. A sharp crack echoed through the silence of the ravine as the bough succumbed to his weight. He plummeted into free-fall. Clenching his eyes, he drew in a deep breath, terrified of the pain, the mauling that waited on the jagged rocks below. When icy water broke his fall, the chill kept him from losing consciousness. He spun, straining to see, but darkness enveloped him. Soggy clothing pulled him deeper—deeper into the murky, fathomless depths. He wrestled to squirm free from the waterlogged jacket dragging him down to a watery grave, watched the coat disappear into black obscurity. Panic gripped his stomach, or was it death that snaked around his chest, squeezing, squeezing, squeezing the air, the life from his body? Lack of oxygen burned his lungs, beckoning surrender, and a shard of rage pierced his gut as reality set in. He lunged upward with one last thrust and burst from the water’s deadly grip, gasping for air. A gurgling howl spewed from the depths of his soul and echoed into silence. Sunlight shimmered across a smooth, indigo lake, but aside from the slight ripples of his own paddling, nothing but stillness surrounded him. He floated toward the shore, sucking deep breaths into his lungs until the pummeling in his chest subsided. When he reached the water’s edge, he hoisted his body onto the soft red clay and collapsed while the sun’s warmth drained the tension from his body. No one knew he had survived. The rules had shifted. Now he could reinvent himself, become a stealth predator. His target: Lacey Madison Montgomery.’ Those two curtain raisers are cinematic!

This is one of the stronger time travel romantic mysteries out there. Start reading it and you’re up for the night! Grady Harp, August 18
Just imagine waking up disoriented in the past, before credit cards, cell phones and other modern conveniences. You would be quite at the mercy of whomever found you and in Lacey’s case she is lucky to have been picked up by Bobby Reynolds. The journey and chemistry between the two is slow growing and smoldering, very realistic and easy to get lost in. I liked the plot of the story and the little tidbits of Rob in the story kept the mystery and plot moving.

Lacey Madison Montgomery’s best friend Piper tricks her into attending a posh party on June 9, 2012. When Lacey accidentally finds her boyfriend Cole ravishing another girl at the party, she flees—an action that takes her out on slippery roads during a heavy thunderstorm.
Lacey escapes a stalker only to plunge backward into the murky depths of Lake Lanier. She is rescued by Bobby Reynolds, a man who threatens to dissolve every barrier she has erected against men. She is amused by his penchant for retro—from his car and house right down to his toothpaste. Then she reads the flag of the Sidney Gazette. The newspaper states the date as Sunday, November 6, 1949.
The likeable, believable characters in Casi McLean’s “Beneath the Lake” power the touching story of love’s triumph over every obstacle, even time. Realistic dialogue, a sprinkling of history, and unexpected twists add emphasis and drama in all the right places to make the story a memorable read.
