This book description intrigued me. I love books with a dark side; an element of danger, and it looked like this book would deliver that. And it did contain some suspense and danger, but I found the tension wavered and it almost lost me a few times.

Gavin and Kate have a shared past because of their parents, but haven't seen each other in years. When Kate's father dies, Gavin's mother invites Kate to live with her. But what are her motives? Gavin appears to save the day, warning Kate of impending danger from his own mother. But Gavin has his own secrets, which makes it difficult for Kate to trust him completely.

The author has created a plot full of twists and surprises, as well as well-rounded, interesting characters we come to care about. Her supporting characters, Gavin's mother, his friends, and Kate's friends, all help to enrich the plot and have their own interesting subplots that I enjoyed reading.

As I mentioned above, I did find the plot slow at some points. I would have liked a more constant tension that would keep me worrying and reading on. A few times it almost felt as if the story could end and I would have been satisfied, but then several pages later a new twist would be introduced. Also, I felt that some details were revealed too early, and while more surprises came later, as a reader, I didn't feel as if there was anything left undiscovered. I would have liked a little more mystery. And as dark as some of the characters were, I wasn't sure if Kate displayed the level of trauma or concern I would expect.

Overall, I did find this an enjoyable read, and I wouldn't mind learning more about some of the secondary characters in future books. I was just a little disappointed in the pacing of the plot, but it did have some great surprises, and I enjoyed the characters. I hope the next book can deliver the darkness promised in the description!

I was graciously given a copy of this book for my honest review.
I have to say I was completely engrossed in this story. I thought I would just read a chapter here and there to help me sleep or unwind.......wrong!!!! As soon as I started this book I was addicted. I found myself unable to put it down. The storyline was unique and unexpected. .
Kate Reynolds has lost everything and everyone she loved. Her father and mother loved her dearly and were very protective of her. She lead a somewhat sheltered life but never once doubted her parents love. When her father dies she is left adrift until a seemingly nice friend of her parents re-enters her life. Letta offers Kate a fresh start that she finds hard to ignore. What she doesn't expect is the affect that Lettas son has on her. She may be in for more than she bargained for with her move however as lies and deceit begin to bubble around her.
Gavin Loman knows what his mother is capable of. He has known for years. He has his hands in several ventures that while they bring in money also bring a bit of danger. When he looks up and sees those beautiful emerald eyes he thought was only in his dreams. He realizes he needs to have her and in doing so fix his past to find a future.
The problem is that the past has decided to pull out all of the stops to not only separate these two but also end one of them.
This story is intense as well as emotional. It has everything it's filled with scenes that range from ....steamy panty melting......sweet and sassy......tearful.....dark.....intense...shocking...and even spirit lifting.
I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation for the next book.
(Yes...we have a cliffhanger)

Beneath the Lies is a Contemporary Romance with a large dash of suspense coursing through the heart of the story. It’s about truth, lies, love and destiny and I found the coming of age theme very much prevalent, with regard to the heroine, as she made discoveries about herself, her past and her future.

Kate Reynolds and Gavin Loman take centre stage and as the story unfolds we learn about how they were once connected, their pasts and the way their lives have been shaped as a result. Kate’s all alone in the world, in terms of family, and Gavin feels much the same, despite his circumstances, all of which becomes clear as the story arc is revealed.

The supporting cast members are all productive in their involvement doing a convincing job of engaging the reader in their side stories and aiding the development of the plot and suspense of the story.

Probably my main critique of the piece is that, at times, the story is over worded for my personal tastes but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of Gavin and Kate’s story as they led me through the web of secrets and lies and navigate their way to their ultimate destiny in life.

I love when Kate’s feisty qualities shine through her timid nature in the prose as she asserts her opinions and personality. Gavin felt powerful and strong, a man in control of his life, despite his tumultuous past, and a man capable of protecting those he cares about. I enjoyed the push and pull pertaining to the build up of their romance. When their sexual attraction for each other takes hold the story excels becoming sexy, romantic and passionate whilst maintaining the intriguing nature of the story.

Beneath the Lies is a lovely light read with a SEXY hero, a feisty heroine and an intriguing story arc that evolves at a steady and engaging pace, a wonderful story for lovers of ROMANCE!
