I had to rest after I finished this masterpiece. I had purchased it ages ago and it was sitting on my shelf. I finally plucked it off and started to read. Ignored wash, ignored dusting, phoned husband to see if he would get takeout for dinner (I think he thought I'd worked hard during the day). OK, when he gets home I'm reading and the house looks the same as when he left. I really didn't care...I just kept reading. Ten hours later I am finished. I can't remember ever sitting down and reading a book in one sitting. This book is magic. The author is magical. The story and the characters are beyond magical...they are essential. They exist together in this seamless story that unfolds and draws you in. I could feel the cold of the beach, the freezing water, the private townspeople, the house on the bluff, the mysterious man in the long coat, everything. I am devastated that the book had to end. I don't want to read another book at the moment. I am sad I can't have more pages of this gem. It appears that Ms. Moreland has only two others to read. How can she do this to us! Only giving us 3 books to live with...it just seems unfair. She is going to have to write faster! I was actually a little surprised that a sequel doesn't exist for the gallery owners. It's a story that needs it's own time and space. That way we "might" have glimpses into our little family to see how things are going. I am intrigued at her injuries and how they all fit together. I can't say enough about this amazingly beautiful story of love, trust, and forgiveness. I am in awe of the talent of this author. I've not read her before but clearly I will be purchasing the other two books as soon as I'm don't here. My words can't even BEGIN to do justice to this work. It really is a work of art. Please consider a story about our other main couple within this magic you have woven. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the best time I have spent in ages. denise olmstead bailey

I had trouble getting through because there was simply just way toooooo much description of emotions. Yeah, ok, we get it, yes she loves him and we don't need to read about it over and over again, same for the male character. I mean the writing is nice but still I caught myslef skipping through paragraphs of emotional drama. First she tells us how he makes her feel (all the time), than we get his point of view and his emotions (all the time), then they talk and again she lets us know for the second time how that conversation felt ... oh for crying out loud. Just not enough going on. So my tree stars are actually for setting a decent plot and nice writting, but characters were so unreal ... especially considering their age ... I don't know, I was disappointed ... so many positive 5* reviews ... I won't even start on the ending ... so unreal. But I guess that is why they call it fiction.

This was a very emotional book. Zachary has been hiding from his past for 12 years and hates anyone to come near him, but when Megan shows up, she somehow lowers his defenses. The promise of their relationship is heady, but it's the intense 3rd act that has you craving to find out what happens in the end. A great read, and an emotional rollercoaster!

"He said once I let myself feel something good, it would change me. It would change how I felt about the world."

Megan has come to the coast to heal and start over. Zachary has found solace in the waves to forget. Theirs is an unlikely friendship. One who keeps trying with the other trying not to. Once they both give into the pull, theirs is a unique love story. But not without a lot of angst. Megan has some hurdles to overcome but Zachary...whoa...his skeletons have skeletons. This beautiful broken man just has a hard time learning to trust and feel. Ms. Moreland has a way of writing male leads that you can see how their environment and nurture impacts their true nature. Side characters come in and add to the storyline. Karen and Zachary - loved every scene they were in together. There were a few different points in the storyline where I got frustrated with the characters. But that's maybe the true mettle of an author to get you to react.

If you are familiar with her debut book, Into the Storm, this is another complicated relationship journey and filled with angst. You root for the characters to find the connection they desperately need.

It took me a while to complete this book. The beginning dragged a bit with the setting up of the story and the inexplicable attraction the couple had for each other. Megan projected her attraction to Zachery based on her intense draw to one of his art pieces while Zachery was attracted to her physically. His scars and self-hatred prevented him from getting too close to her but she kept going back with sweetness and gifts. Personally, I did not care for Megan. I thought that she cried too much but she seemed to be a good fit for someone like Zachery. She was sweet, understanding and loved completely though a bit emotional. Though the story’s pace was slow at times, the author wrote well and able to portray vivid images and strong emotions between the couple. Also, Zachery’s past and Megan’s present situation made the story interesting.

"We all have scars. The only difference is some of them are easier to see"

OMGGGG MY EMOTIONS ARE EVERYWHERE BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK! One chapter I am smiling with a stupid grin, and then next I am sobbing. And let me tell you, I loved EVERY SECOND of the emotional roller coaster this book put me through!

So you know the drill with my reviews at this point: short and sweet && a brief discussion of the characters, whom by the way, I LOVED!!

Megan
...LOVED HER! I was immediately drawn to how real she was. We meet her arriving in Cliff's Edge, a small town on the water. She eludes to the fact that she was running away from her problems at home and as the story takes off, we learn why. She then meets the elusive Zachary, who for lack of a better term, was a complete and utter a** to her. But she knows there is more than meets the eye to this handsome stranger and the love affair that starts between the two is absolutely beautiful. My only issue with Megan is that I felt she was a little too loose-lipped on the "L" word, but to each their own!

Zachary
...LOVED HIM TOO! In Cliff's Edge, Zachary is known as the reclusive artist that doesn't give anyone the time of day. When he first see's Megan, he ignores her completely. OF course my first response to this was- wtf? If there is a love that starts between them, I am going to be pissed because he's a d***. (Yes, my words exactly...what can I say? I'm a genius when it comes to words) But as he shows himself more and more to Megan, we learn exactly why he is the way he is. The scars that mar his face and body aren't just on the surface, they are skin deep as well. Never before have I felt such compassion for a character. This man, before he met Megan, was literally suffering in his loneliness.
