I appreciated how she brought out the different values the society holds concerning religion and adults in the family, and the conflict between respect and core values that one lives with. She did this in a very classy manner, without inflicting any ones beliefs and yet showing emancipation of women in the society.
Excallent job Susan. A must read for all ages in Pakistan and overseas in every sense of the word.
As with any story that is set in another country and/or another time period, this one required a lot of research on the author's part. I was highly impressed with the work that she put into this story, taking the reader on a journey that allows them to understand different religions and cultures. Often, when reading books like this, I find myself relying on google for help to understand what I'm reading. For the most part, though, that wasn't necessary for me with this one. I felt completely comfortable immersing myself in the story and experiencing details through the eyes of the characters.
This was a beautifully moving and educational story, and I absolutely loved it. It's one of those that teaches the reader about humanity, about others, and also a bit about themselves in the process. I'll most definitely be reading this one again.
