I've used a full size Benro for a few years and love it, but wanted something smaller for travel as airlines seem to get more difficult each day with weight and size. Like other Benro models, the build quality is outstanding, and all the mechanisms work with smoothness and precision. The ball head is great for photography and allows quick and accurate positioning of the camera (but other head choices would be better for video). I've found that I much prefer the circular leg clamps used by Benro over lever clamps used on some manufacturers - you can unlock all three clamps on a leg with one hand and one quick motion. The tripod folds compactly and fits nicely inside a carryon or I can strap it onto the side of my small camera day pack. Although I really like my full size Benro, I imagine it will end up staying in the closet and I'll take this little one instead for occasional excursions. The best tripod is the one that you have with you, and this travel model is much more likely to be at hand.
Overall, it's a well built, low weight, compact tripod perfect for those who travel or want something light but don't want to give up the build quality and operation of a much more expensive model.
Update: I knocked a star off because before getting this outdoors, paint chipped off near the area where the legs meet the shoulders. No moving parts come into contact with this spot so it is simply a matter of a glitch in the paint. It is a small spot and not a huge deal, functionality the tripod is just fine. I am in the process of returning it, only as a precaution against further paint chipping. I have already ordered a replacement. I am still impressed with the build quality, but obviously, the finish turned out to be slightly less than perfect.
After being hands on, I still think this gets the balance between size and stability right and at a very attractive price point. The ball head is basic but very solid. The only downside is there is no positive locking action (no release button) for the plate. If using the supplied Acra Swiss style plate (which is quite nice), there are two pins that provide a degree of protection by preventing the plate for sliding out is loosened only slightly. For plates without these pins, like my Peak Design plates which I have on all my gear, there is zero protection -- so be very careful. This is a contributing factor to dropping my rating by one star.
This tripod is LIGHT and solid. Usually when I buy stuff that's light, it feels flimsy. That's not the case here. The carbon fiber legs feel strong and look great wit hthe pattern.
tldr:
Pros:
Stable
Strong
Super light weight
Fast and setup
Looks great
Cons:
Could use a few more leg with options
Be careful and have a firm grip on your camera when you loosen the quick plate.
Second - It's light as a feather but still holds my Canon 5D MK IV with battery pack and medium-sized lens without issue. The ball head is small but locks down tight at any angle, even upside down.
Lastly - This isn't my goto primary tripod for studio our heavy outside use in demanding conditions. But I'll use it to pack when I'm traveling because it has a small diameter and removing the ball head free's up even more space. The legs are thin but strong enough that they're not flexing under the weight of a full size DSLR camera.
The legs don't operate smoothly. One leg got so bound up I had to remove the plastic sleeve on the inner leg so that I could even move it. The ball head itself is terrible. There is NO way to pan side to side. Loosening the head enough to pan and the ball is loose and the camera flops over.
