A bit of humor, but probably less than follow on books that aren't as concerned with initial character and world building.
At times it appeared the MC acted out of character, acting more impulsive and less intelligent to set up action sequences. I would hope that the MC grows in intelligence, and is a bit less reactive and belligerent. Of course, some of that growth should be with her parents, especially her mother who comes off as too aloof.
There's a lot of material for future stories. It will be interesting to see if what the blood sacrifice brought back interacts in the future.
Either way, I still highly recommend checking it out. It was a good story that I had a hard time putting down.
I thoroughly enjoyed Bent’s personality and perspective, looking forward to the next book.
Rick takes his time to build a world here and an intro story to explain just enough to keep us on the edge of our seats.
The other characters feel like they have more purpose than just to be there to support Tamara Bent, our heroine.
