Having the strips slip out of the pan is an advantage and it is designed this way on purpose. You really don't want to apply so much pressure when removing the strips when the cake is done, because you could tap hard on the pan and cause the cake to sink. Silicone also expands when heat is applied.
9" pans are measured as the internal diameter. If your pan is made of thick aluminum, then the outside diameter can be up to 9 3/4 inches. So you know, it would be impossible to make a ring out of silicone to fit exactly.
tuck in a little piece of folded aluminum foil under, to keep the rings put, or get some trussing twine or silicone rubber bands for roasts. I know this defeats the purpose of a stretch ring easy to use, but honestly, it is still much easier than having to deal with pins and cloth aluminized traditional cake strips.
I have several of Rose's cake strips and use them on all my pans from 3" to 12" diameters and bigger! For the smaller pans you can fold the cake strips in half and use it 'double thick' and for the larger pans fold them in half also and use 2 or 3 strips. Really, one size fits all.Read more ›
Summary: The Rose Levy Beranbaum Heavenly Cake Strip DOES outperform the Wilton product. (Actually, it blows the Wilton product out of the water!)
Pros: Easier to put on the pan since it's similar to a large rubber band and doesn't need to be soaked.. It fits well on the Nordic Ware 9"x2" pan and will fit the Nordic Ware 8"x2" pan if you tighten it with a clothespin. It's is easier to clean up after use. It yielded a tender, flat topped cake. Also, I didn't have a problem putting it on AFTER pouring the batter into the pan.
Con: It won't fit 1 1/2" deep cake pans.
The Wilton cake strip comments:
Pros: Less expensive. (I bought mine at Walmart.) It fits 1 1/2" deep cake pans, and is adjustable to both 8" and 9" cake pans.
Cons: After use it appears USED and a bit yucky. It retained a bit of moisture after use which makes me hesitant about putting it back into the drawer from which it came. I don't really want to spend time babysitting a cake strip. Quality is definitely not up to par with the RLB strip. The cake was NOT DONE and needed about 10 more minutes than the recipe required. (The RLB cooked at suggest time.) Cake looked flat, but the center collapsed (due to being undercooked) when removed from the oven. I ended up tossing this layer.

These work amazingly well. I was skeptical at first. But they worked great and I had no issues at all. My cakes baked evenly. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Gina Central
This does not do as good a job as cloth strips soaked in water, and it only fits 9" round or 8" square pans. The cloth strips from Wilton are a much better alternative.Published 4 months ago by P. S. Wedoff
I have been looking at cake pan bands for sometime. I decided to order the Rose Levy brand, because they are easy to keep clean. I love silicon too. I'm very glad I have these. Read morePublished 5 months ago by splash
Not so much on helping with cake bake even. What it did was shielded the sides of the cake, hence it was lighter than the bottom and top part. Read morePublished 6 months ago by MCCN
