Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents, Stan and Jan, working together to write and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too.

Unfortunately, there is not much to this particular edition than was mentioned my first paragraph. The included Berenstain Bears material is nothing more than inserts of illustrations every 1/8th intervals, extolling some virtue tied with a verse that is rarely near the book its in. I would have given less than two-stars if wasn't the presentation of NIRV text.
For those completely oblivious to spectrum of English translation of the Bible, the NIRV is a variant of the New International Version (NIV) aimed at children and people to whom English is not their first Language. Taking the already contemporary language of the NIV, the translators simplified the Scripture with smaller words, phrases, and more declarative sentences. For many readers about my age and experiences, it would be easy to discount its worth but rarely has a Bible made itself so immediately clear - the book of Job, Isaiah, and the Psalms, the Epistles are more readable. Within this Bible, every book has a paragraph long introduction and simple outline of the major events and people. The text itself is broken up with smaller headings of the events within the text. It has a large 12-type text for easy reading and highlighting - the page paper is slightly above the tissue paper of other Bibles.Read more ›

This is NOT what we need. The children exposed to this will find it impossible to "fear God" as they grow older. Read morePublished on July 28, 2011 by Athanasius2000
