The TV book is a good one, and it has an excellent lesson for the world's children. Too much sitting and watching T.V. dulls the mind and the heart. Children need more time to be outside playing, or with their parents, or reading books, or doing many other things.
This book may seem a bit dated as today the couch- potato distractions are more diverse( and perhaps Interactive) than T.V.
In any case this little book is a fine and amusing read for children and for parents alike.
I loved these books and love that my daughter loves them. I am so glad that the older books are still in print and we can get them for her.
Turn off the TV for a week. And today we'll have to add the computer games! But Papa Bear, like so many men, feel that the TV time-out doesn't apply to him! Uh-oh. Papa is a creature of habit -- but the cubs, that's a different story. Unfortunately, as in so many of TV's portrayals of families today, the man gets the brunt of the laughs. Oh well -- that's how it is.
You can add to the value of this book by having family members give their ideas for what else they can do rather than just TV and computer games. And Mama Bear might admit, too, that she's hooked on Downton Abbey!
Why has the meme from sitcoms reached into children's books? It wouldn't be offensive if it wasn't repeated in multiple books with completely different stories (junk food, manners, etc.).
