About the Author
Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bears books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

The only weak point is at the very end, which I see another reviewer also noticed. As they are getting ready to eat, Brother says it's a shame there aren't any Native Bears to share the feast with, and Gramps makes a really dismissive remark about it. Why? After the book's wonderful messages, there's no need to disregard the suffering and experience of Native "Bears." I guess it was supposed to be funny, but I don't want to teach my children to poke fun at someone else's expense in that way. I can only imagine how a Native American child reading the book with his/her family would feel.
