My other tethers are very short strap loops with one carabiner attached. They work by wrapping the loop around the seat belt and threading the carabiner through the loop. You then attach the carabiner to the D ring in the dog's harness. Unfortunately, this makes a very short tether even shorter. This is fine if I only have one dog on my lap, but being that my dogs are tiny, they often like to be together and the short tethers frequently cause one of them to have to sit on the other or not be able to get comfortable. The adjustable tether solves this problem, but also makes it easy to ensure that they can't go farther than you want them too. I used to "daisy chain" a couple of my old tethers to gain extra length, but one of my dogs was able to go a bit farther than was safe and ended up hanging from the headrest after attempting to get onto my husband's shoulder. (He was in a harness, so it didn't hurt him, but it can be quite distracting)
This tether seems well made and the carabiners don't feel cheap or chintzy and the strap is a softer fabric so it won't burn and scrape skin like cheaper strap material if it should be pulled forcefully (like in a crash or hard stop). Being that my dogs are tiny, there's never any concern that the strap will break, but this looks and feels strong enough to restrain large dogs well. Overall, I really, really like this tether and will choose this one over any of the other ones I own. I definitely recommend this.
Bergen restrain harnesst. Even if you use a barrier, separating your cargo
area from the seating area, you still need a restraint and tether to
make sure your dog is not ejected from the car in case of an
accident. The barrier only prevents a dog from becoming a missile.
The restraint keeps the dog in the car if the windows blow out (VERY
common in an accident)!
