I'm updating this review...not because I'm happy but due to the ridiculous personal attacks and other objectionable response(s) related to the original review. Upon the suggestion of someone else, I did contact Berkely who did take the time to respond...and respond, and respond. Daily. I was busy and not able to implement the ideas right away but found Berkeley to be helpful...if not borderline obsessive but hey, I wish more sellers went to these efforts to make their customers happy.
Now, here is the deal...from the email sent by Berekely, there were problems with some strips and they know it. The company seems more than anxious to make it right and normally I would change my review to reflect this fact except for the fact that the original review seems correct...the strips ARE unreliable. I juice fresh daily...with raw beets. I shouldn't have to jump hoops to trouble-shoot the strips for them...I want the strips to work right the first time. I don't want to have conversations via email and I sure don't feel like listening to insults for leaving an honest review.
Take a look at the less than 5 star reviews and associated insults...mostly by the same people who either clearly have an input in this product OR have so little life as to hang out on this board waiting for any response to take place so they can send an unsolicited and non-helpful insult. So, not only does my original review remain but now that I have the time to actually follow up on the troubleshooting and other...thanks but no thanks. I don't choose to do business with a bunch of crazy-makers who sit around and stalk people they disagree with.
Bottom line...these strips are NOT reliable. They ARE basically idiot-proof, they are a good idea and aside from the questionable tactics demonstrated via this board which I strongly suspect originates with the sellers...I would have reluctantly been willing to help troubleshoot the problem although for the record, it shouldn't be necessary. Instead, I'll eat the cost and move on to a more professional and less cult-ish provider.
ORIGINAL POST
Spouse and self are both extremely health conscious. We eat raw and leafy greens with every meal, juice with raw beets and other veggies, remain active etc...so, imagine our irritation when we BOTH tested "depleted" each and every time with these strips. Tried in the morning...depleted. Tried in the afternoon...ditto. In the evening. Both male and female on well above average diets with above average activity levels.
After spending $35 on 50 strips only to use up a substantial number of the strips to determine they are all but worthless. A nice idea but totally unreliable and ultimately a waste of money.
But apparently my diet is lacking in NO enriched foods. My first review asked if the strips worked and gave the product 2 stars.
When wife, son, and I used these strips, the test showed almost no color change.
On the suggestion from Berkley Test, I added beet powder to my morning smoothie. Three days later I took the test again, first when I woke up, before my morning smoothie. This test showed my NO levels in the second to lightest level (out of five). I drank my beet infused smoothie. Next I waited two hours and tested again with another strip. This time it showed my NO levels squarely in the third level. I have to admit that the strips seem to work.
I can't say I'd buy them on a regular basis, but as a test to see where your NO levels are at these seem like a good product.
BTW: Berkeley Heart Lab had been funded by US Dept Defense, I think @ UC Berkeley. It was aquired by 2 successive companies; Quest Diagnostics owns it now. Apologies if there r any errors. These r brilliant.
