Pro: This is a beautiful fishing rod. It is well built, the materials are excellent, it is 100% as advertised.
Con: I asked a knowledgeable friend who deals in used and antique fishing tackle, to compare this model rod with one I own of the same brand-same model that was made a few years earlier.
Question: "Other than the company brand and the model designation, can you find ANY aspect of this new fishing rod that is similar to or in any way resembles this rod made a few years back?"
He agreed that there was not the slightest resemblance. Not on a single feature.
The current model (new) rod is:
much much heavier
much much stiffer action (despite having the same rating)
the rod stock was made from a different material
the guides were totally different and made of different materials
the shape of the handle was different (difficult for me to grip)
the reel mount area is shaped very differently and that changes the gripping the rod handle during cast
NOTE: This buyer can think of some fishing rod models that hardly change from year-to-year.
CONCLUSION: This buyer has only himself to blame for buying a $40 fishing rod that he can not use at all. That is the reason I didn't ask to return the fishing rod: this incorrect purchase was *my* fault, Amazon shipped fast, the rod quality is high and is as illustrated.
All this fisherman wanted was another Berkley Lightning just like the *perfect* one that he already owns. Time passes, things change.
